I received the worst care I have ever experienced at Premier Healthcare East. I work a desk job and have been feeling elbow pain since I took the position, so I scheduled an appointment to have my elbows x-rayed. As I had done some research beforehand, I knew it was likely what’s called tennis elbow, but I wanted confirmation. I also wanted a professional’s opinion on what I could do to get a more ergonomic desk setup to avoid further pain. The receptionist was quick and efficient. I was there early, but waited more than 30 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment. The assistant who took my x-rays was nice and the assistant who asked me the preliminary questions and took my blood pressure was fine enough. The real problem was the Physician Assistant, Mr. William Latimer. I immediately got the feeling I was just another box to check off the list. I get it, he was probably busy with other patients, but at the very least I expect feigned sincerity from healthcare professionals. He confirmed that, yes, I have tennis elbow. I mentioned I have been able to crack my elbows, something I had never been able to do before. He brushed this off and said I was just getting older. I’m 26. He immediately recommended that I take anti-inflammatory medication (which I had already been doing) and possibly wear arm braces. He didn’t recommend any stretches; he didn’t suggest strengthening exercises or physical therapy; he didn’t recommend anything beyond drugs, which is what I wanted to avoid. I don’t just want a band-aid. I explained my situation: my company is willing to accommodate my needs based off of his professional opinion on what would improve my desk setup. He said he couldn’t give an opinion on something like that. Who else but an orthopedist could give an opinion on something such as what helps prevent joint pain? Why seek help from a professional if all they are going to do is tell you to take painkillers to give temporary relief? Honestly, I learned more about how to treat this condition from a basic Google search. I do not know if Mr. Latimer is reflective of Premier Healthcare as a whole. I have heard good things about them. But, based off of my experience, I would recommend you look elsewhere first—or at the very least avoid this physician.
