I had a bad experience with this guy 15 years ago. I wanted to write a review then, but I just never took the time, partly because he was on my adult baseball team. Now, I've got plenty of time. I was trying to create a "team" mentality because we had a lot of talented ball players, including former pro and college players, and I had to make sure everyone played. My goal was to get guys to selflessly help one another succeed so the team would win. I thought the best way to do it was by setting examples, so I bailed one of my players out of jail when he got in a jam, and when another player asked me to loan him $600 so he wouldn't get evicted, I did. I made them promise that one day, when they were older and better situated, they'd similarly help someone else. At the time, the guy who did my floors hadn't been in the business all that long, a few years, perhaps. He was one who was going to be on the bench a lot because we had better players at his position, but I thought I'd help him out by hiring him to do my floors, hallways, and stairs. The work was supposed to be done in theee stages. He did a good job on the floors downstairs, but a few days after he finished, I discovered he'd used MY bath towels to clean up his mess. He or his helper stashed them in my garage along with a bunch of other debris. He also charged me for materials he didn't use, leaving me with a couple of stacks of wood flooring that he "overestimated" for the job, claiming the amount was "industry standard." When we agreed on the second job, i.e., the upstairs hallways, I told him I wanted him to use the excess wood from the first job to reduce my cost. He said he would and then he didn't. He overestimated AGAIN, leaving me with ANOTHER stack of wood, again claiming the excess was "industry standard," as if that was a magical phrase that absolved him of the responsibility to do the right thing and treat people fair and square. The hallways looked good when he was done, but he took off pieces of moulding between a stairway and closet to install the floor, and then didn't put them back. He also failed to properly transition the end of that hallway with a carpeted bedroom. We struck a deal on the cost of the stairs and he collected the money for the wood. Later, he said his supplier raised his price, so he wanted more money from me. I told him that's not the way business deals work. We had a binding contract. He incurred the risk of that happening when made the deal. Now he expected me to bail him out. We had a heated argument. I wasn't in a cooperating mood because he'd already gotten over on me twice, but he essentially held the job hostage by refusing to do it unless I gave him more money. Reluctantly, I did. I shouldn't have, though, because then he kept putting off doing the job week after week after month. He finally told me he'd rather make $3,000 on another job than $300 on mine. This guy ended up dropping the wood off at my wife's place of business, unannounced, of course, so he could inconvenience her, too, I guess. I got the wood and finished the damn job myself. It looks great. There are a lot of guys around Monroe County who do a good job installing wood floors. They're professionals and take pride in their work. By the way, I had to give a star to write this review. I'm taking it back now that I'm done.

The guy is nice enough, and I am rating him as fair not poor but there were real problems. The problems I had with his service are that a) he took longer than he said he would even though I clearly communicated when I needed the floor done and he clearly said he would have it done by then and b) he took off the quarter round and did not put it back up. I didn't fully understand what was happening with b) - I didn't know what quarter round was - when he strategically rushed an explanation of what he would do as we were discussing a number of issues. To be fair, the floors look good and if you can get Bruce Johnson then he's a decent option but make sure he puts the quarter round back up.
