I chose Al's because I wanted to support local and they had good google reviews. After my experience with them, I have no idea how they have such positive reviews. (Side note, other review sites aren't as positive).
I had an accident and stopped by Al's for an estimate. I was told they just had an opening the following week so we agreed that I would drop it off on July 10th. Two weeks later I hadn't heard anything so I called. I was told that they were waiting on a part and it would be in the following Tuesday and my car would be done the end of that week. The next week comes and I call again. I was given the EXACT same story. This continued, I kid you not, for EIGHT straight weeks. I called at the beginning of every week and was told the exact same story. My husband stopped in a few times and was told the same thing. I only had rental coverage with my insurance until August 12 which I thought was plenty of time. I was then paying $231 per WEEK out of my own pocket for a rental car. My husband told them this and the guy literally shrugged his shoulders and said "not my fault". One time when I called and mentioned this the girl that answered was very rude and said "yep, you and everyone else". My car was in the shop, pulled apart and basically held hostage this entire time.
Finally on September 12 my husband called to let them know that we were going to have it towed to another shop for repairs. Suddenly, low and behold, the manager said to give him an hour and he will find the part. He called my husband back an hour later and said he found the part and would have it the next day. My car was then finished and ready for pickup on Sept 26. So my car was in that shop from July 10 to Sept 26 and we had to threaten to take it somewhere else to finally get it back.
As a side note, we had previously taken our daughter's car there for a paint job (only the hood and trunk) and they had it for more than 6 weeks. They told her that the painter had broken his hand so we gave them the benefit of the doubt and believed their story. Now I feel like that's one of their standard stories that they must tell everyone.
They have zero communication. If you call and they don't answer they have an answering machine but they never call back. They give no updates on how things are going, ever. I asked the car rental place about their experience with Al's and was told that they are known to be the slowest shop around and they had 10 other customers in my same situation and they knew of a customer whose car had been in there for 8 months before it was returned. We have 4 vehicles and have learned our lesson with Al's, we will never use them again.
