Tried to admit a family member to memory care. She has another medical condition that I was told they could handle there, so submitted the required entrance fee by check. Was then told they couldn't accept her as a resident. They already cashed the check and will not refund for 30 days. Unbelievable.

For a Memory Care Unit, Traditions is clean, the staff is attentive and there are a lot of activities the patients are encouraged to join. For the area, it's one of the nicer, more affordable MCU's in the area. We believe our relative was well taken care of during Covid when we were unable to visit. What left a bad taste was when all of his belongings were stolen, including a vintage class ring, we were told that the television and shower curtain were "attached to the wall" so they belonged to Traditions (note that when residents move in there are no televisions, so the staff steals them once the resident has passed away) and an entire unopened bottle of oxycodone disappeared. The nurses who run the MCU then become rude and belligerent and then just refuse refuse to answer the phone. The only regret we have is that we didn't report the theft of the Oxy to the police. Update: The reply from Natalie is a lie. At no point would anyone talk to or return phonecalls, we have a receipt of delivery for the Oxy, so it did exist, and she didn't address the thefts by the staff at all. Not changing the review.

I will begin by saying I nor anyone in my family is a resident here, but not for a lack of trying. We tried to get my mother into Traditions for about 6 months. We filled out the paperwork, they came to her house, we even gave a deposit check. It looked as if we were finally getting mom into a community where she could have a social life and have support to live her best life. Well, my mother had a drinking problem. No, that is nobodys fault but her and her family. This created an issue with Traditions as it was huge liability. I get that. Totally understand. They sent us our deposit check back and let us know they would not be moving forward with moms intake. Well we wanted to see what we needed to do to get mom to a place where they would take her. Thats where issues started. First it became almost impossible to get anyone to return a phone call. Then it became hard to ask for someone I spoke with as they went through 3 different intake persons in this time frame. After a while we understood that if mom got treatment they would be willing to take a second look. There was no guarantee that she would be accepted but that we could begin discussions again. So we sent mom to an in patient rehab facility for a month and it really helped. We had to pay for this out of pocket as many of these facilities will not accept Medicare. I started to open discussion with Traditions afterward to see where we stood. The short answer was no. Which is fine. Again, I understand. The main issue I have is the way we received the no. Through a total and complete lack of communication. They said they would call someone and call me back. They did not. I must have reached out at least 5 times within a month. The decision was always up to someone else. Supposedly, I would get a call back. I never did. Im done with them. They never returned one single call they said they would. If you wont take someone due to risk, fine. But have the simple decency and respect to call me and tell me as much. Its a beautiful facility. When you are in the door the staff is friendly and loving. The amenities are amazing. I would still love to have mom be there. But after the run around and flat out disrespect my family was shown due to my mothers illness, I will not be recommending them to anyone.

Dear Shirley,We appreciate the kind words on our attentive staff and level of care. I believe we’ve spoken about the items you mention (namely that televisions are often provided by Traditions and your loved one was not prescribed this medication), but I would welcome the chance to talk with you personally. You can reach me at (812) 748-5258.Natalie Stone, Executive DirectorTraditions of Hunter Station

Dear Adam, You are frustrated, and we understand your feelings. We did communicate with your mom throughout the process as well, and it became clear we were not able to meet her needs moving forward. We empathize with your desire to help your mom and apologize if our decision was not clear. We wish you both the very best. Natalie Stone, Executive Director Traditions at Hunter Station
