I use the PowerFilm Solar Light Saver, with a USB dongle that up-converts the voltage to 10.3 volts, to power a small amateur radio transceiver for use in remote locations.

I'm the inventor of the Bubble-Worm.. I have been given 2 tours of PowerFim Solar. One by Tim Neugent in 2010. The other in 2013. Q: You're in Ames like ISU. Why aren't solar panels more efficient by now. Intel's 8088 was 4.77 megahertz in the 80s. By the end of the 80s.. They were considerably faster.. Now in the Gigahertz.. Does solar need better engineering schools? I have a sample. I'll take pictures.. And add my ideas to make it more efficient. Give me a few days. Additionally. Change black roll to violet or purple. UV has shorter wavelengths. Also will reduce temperature making panels more efficient.

As an avid backpacker, I use PowerFilm's LightSaver product when out on the trail to keep my electronics charged. The light weight, compact, flexible design is perfect for backpacking. I highly recommend it.

I have purchased this for a through hike on the AT, but have been testing it out doing day hikes. So far the system works and has been providing charges to my cell regularly. Good design and durable.

I purchased the LSM-1 PowerFilm Solar. I have used it on a number of backpacking trips. Last summer we used it on an 8 day section of the PCT in northern Washington state. It worked great. It kept our phones charged and the HAM radio running. This is definitely a great solution for larger groups on multiday trips. The 17000mA Hr battery keeps things happening when there is no sun and the huge solar panel makes quick work of charging when the sun is out. Having the 12V port in addition to the USB port is great for using with the HAM radio along with other things. The LSM-1 is part of my standard equipment for Summits On The Air (SOTA) radio fun. This has been a good addition to my hiking and HAM gear.
