I went to Portland Smiles last summer, August 2022, for an exam following some tooth pain. I had X-rays done and discovered I had a few cavities that needed filling, and was able to get them done the same day. I do appreciate the promptness there, but unfortunately that's where things end. I was told only after the whole procedure that they no longer accepted my dental insurance, and I had to pay $1100 out of pocket. Not only that, a week or two later they called and told me they forgot to charge me for X-rays and I owed them another $350.
I let them know that I was still having significant pain in the areas where my fillings were done, and they informed that fixing them would come at an additional cost. Considering I'd already spent $1,500 out of pocket and would now have to pay again to fix their mistakes, I opted out. I went to a new dentist yesterday who took more X-rays and confirmed that Dr. Buss had done my fillings incorrectly, sloppily, and negligently. I had two fillings done in two teeth right next to one another, and when this happens my dentist explained that you're supposed to have each filling done individually as to avoid problems. It was evident to him that this was not the case- Dr. Buss prepped both teeth at the same time for the fillings and this is what's been causing my continuous pain, bleeding, and inability to floss.
I have to get all of the fillings removed that Dr. Buss performed and have them replaced by another dentists. Thankfully I have insurance now, but it will still cost $250. I've had to escalate this issue to seek legal aid and report Portland Smiles and Dr. Buss to the Maine board of dentistry.
Please, please, please beware! I did my research and only saw good things. Don't make the same costly mistake I did.

Absolutely the best experience Ive ever had at the dentist. Every staff member is super friendly, and the hygienist was gentle but thorough. I needed two fillings, and Ive never had fillings before so I was a little nervous. The process was super easy, it only took 30 minutes, and I havent had any post procedure pain. They got me in within a week of calling for an appointment and got me in for the fillings within 3 days of my cleaning appointment. I highly recommend.

Always a great experience. Everyone is so friendly and happy. I leave with a smile every time. Dr. Buss really knows what she is doing and takes great care of my teeth.

We (my spouse, parents and I) have been going to Portland Smiles since we moved here in 2016 and have no intention of going to any other dentist as long as she is in practice. Dr. Buss is excellent, as are her staff, and the offices are impeccable and comfortable. Truly 5 star service with the highest professional medical standards.
