image We were taking a cruise that landed in Portland. I saw on the map how close to the dock you were. I use a scooter because it is hard for me to walk. So I called to find out what could be done about my scooter if I was on the train. I was told you would watch it in the gift shop. afterwards I realized I would not be able to clime the stairs to the train car. Anyway, My two adult daughters, my wife, and I arrived at the port in late May 2023. We went to the gift shop and were told there was now a lift for the disabled passengers and I could take my scooter! We bought four tickets. We had time to explore to very interesting gift shop and use the restrooms. We went to the train and the brand new, never been used lift was wheeled out! The brand new conductor learned how to use it. I was so pleased that you bought the lift just for me! The scooter could not be lifted but I was able to be lifted. So my family rode the train and had a delightful time. Your new conductor was the happiest person on the train and made it such a treat for everyone else! Thank you!

image Fun little experience for locals and tourists alike. This scenic, vintage train runs up and down the coast. You can choose a normal train ride, but there are also themed rides throughout the year including an ice cream train.
We took the Sunset Express which took about 40 minutes round trip in travel time, and came with a drink (beer/cider/seltzer/hard cocktail). You have to pick up the drinks at their building, not on the train which wasn't immediately clear to us.
We unfortunately ran into fog that obscured the view but it was interesting at least.
I did expect the conductor or someone would give historical facts over the loud speaker, which didn't happen. Maybe that's on the other trains that aren't the Sunset Express.
We chose to ride in the open air car which does have a roof in case of rain. The vintage Caboose is kind of cool however. We were lucky that the train was mostly empty when we went, so we got to explore and walk up and down the train.
Good activity for kids.
