CALL Phil and HAVE HIM DO YOUR FLOORS. Do it. You will NOT be disappointed. When I met him the first time to get a quote, though we had very different careers and life experiences while growing up in different parts of the US (I’m a physician from the Midwest who recently followed in-laws from Maine to the Midcoast), we bonded quickly over our shared ages (Class of 1989!) and I could tell he was an honest & hardworking family man. He was not daunted by the formidable task presented by the rough & neglected wood floors my modest 1850s Rockland Cape Cod. Though the expense would not be small, and we had no other quotes, my fiancée was & I hired him on the spot. He started and finished when he said he would. To cut to the chase- we are THRILLED with how our floors turned out... smooth & a beautiful honey-brown- basically just perfect. His attention to detail is amazing and his finished product truly a work of art. Only later did I find out how fortunate I was to secure his services as he is very busy and regularly spends weeks on large multi-million dollar island home projects costing ten times or more than what I spent. I however have zero doubt that those mansions got any more attention or care than what he gave my home. He is fantastic. Call him.
Footnote: A neighbor and new friend who recently used Phil’s services was also equally impressed with his work; she noted that he even constructed and installed a new matching threshold for her damaged front entry free of charge because, as he said, “I just couldn’t leave it the way it was.” Then, over the past winter, we had the pleasure of socializing with Phil & his kids while skating frozen ponds and we’ve met for dinner on occasions that he is in town from returning on the ferry. He is not only incredibly skilled, but also simply a good person.
