Jeff is a great teacher and an absolute pleasure to spend time with. I highly recommend Jeff if you are looking for a great experience learning to play or improve on the guitar. Jeff tailored my lessons to the goals I wanted to accomplish. I set out to learn and memorize a set number of songs, and improve my playing skills. Jeff worked with me on a plan and helped me accomplish both goals. More than that, though, Jeff taught me a ton about music, composing, and how music and songs are put together.

Jeff does a great job balancing the learning of guitar playing as well as the theory. Understanding theory for a beginner can be overwhelming, but he always had great metaphors or painted vivid images which helped tremendously in learning the theory. Jeff's calm disposition made it easy to think clearly when covering certain subjects. His ability to integrate personal stories and experiences in his lessons kept the sessions interesting and fun.

My daughter has been taking guitar lessons with Jeff since the beginning of third grade and has now been with Jeff for over a year. During that time she’s not only learned her notes, a variety of chords and mastered a few songs, but she’s also gained confidence in her ability to read music and has a good ear for the notes. Jeff has an easy style and approachable manner and my daughter loves that she can bring in one of her favorite pop songs and Jeff will figure out the chords and help her learn it. For me, Jeff’s flexible schedule and convenient location have made getting my daughter to her lessons a breeze and my daughter looks forward to her weekly lessons.

Jeff gently pushes me forward, with small challenges that speed up my progress. He shows me that I can do things that I might think would be too difficult. He is patient and flexible and will always find something interesting to cover if I bring a new song or some other idea to the lesson. I also enjoy just talking about music with him. Jeff introduced me to chord-melody style playing, which I really enjoy. He also lets me pick the songs and styles I would like to learn, and has plenty of suggestions if I can't think of something immediately. We look at the musical construction of the songs I am playing. He shows me the basic harmonies and the chord progression structure, then suggests variants and little changes which add to the musicality and sound. I am starting to learn how to play by ear, which I thought I could I never do. Sometimes I haven't had time to practice enough. But Jeff is able to find something for us to work on that is new. And when I do practice, I have a wealth of things we have gone over, from scales to songs to exercises that I have more than enough to do during my practice time without being bored.

Before taking guitar lessons with Jeff I had a basic understanding of music with some basic self taught abilities. With Jeff's teaching I have been able to correct some bad habits I developed as well develop new skills needed for a strong foundation. As my music abilities grow and get better I find that my musical goals are constantly changing. With Jeff's teaching I have one goal that continues to remain intact and that is my desire to get better. I have walked away from every lesson with Jeff excited to get home and practice what I had learned in that days lesson. Jeff not only possess the technical skills and knowledge needed to be a successful teacher but also the intangible soft skills needed to help encourage his students to enjoy the music they're playing and understand the theory behind the music. Jeff is always prepared for each lesson whether it be practicing chords and songs from a previous lesson or learning a new song and new scales he always has a plan for the lesson so no time is wasted. My favorite thing about taking guitar lessons with Jeff is how he is able to understand the style of music I am interested in playing. He is able to tailor each lesson to my musical interests while also incorporating some music theory in the lesson. It is a sign someone truly is an expert in their field when they are able to teach students in a way that can be easily understood. I have been interested in playing the guitar for a long time. I moved to Boston in October and decided that I was going to buy a new guitar and start taking lessons to learn how to play from a professional. I have taken weekly lessons with Jeff since October and plan on continuing my lessons with him for the foreseeable future. If you have a passion for or even just an interest in playing the guitar I highly recommend taking lessons with Jeff.
