Five stars isn't enough! Daily vegan soup w/ sm corn muffin $3.50, Salad bar big salad ~$7 (pay by the pound), bulk nuts, raisins, flour, granola, oats very affordable... Daily vegan cookies/muffins/scones ~$1, daily wraps (vegan/herbivore, vegetarian/omnivore, or chicken/carnivore) and sandwiches. They make custom smoothies and have coffee/espresso-based drinks. Soup/Salad/Deli is self-service, but you do ask for drinks (and get a cup for tea/water or your smoothie/coffee) at the counter. You can get deli items to-go. To-go containers are to the left of the salad bar (boxes) and soup station (cylinders). Dressing comes with your salad and 1/4c. plastic containers are in the deli case on the upper right shelf. Salad dressings are made in-house. You can call in sandwich/wrap orders, and they'll be placed in the deli case with your name written on them. Seat yourself. Bus your table (bin under soup kettle, trash to left of salad bar). These are the things I always find helpful to know when trying out a new restaurant! Now don't you feel special-- like you can just walk in and act like you know what you're doing? :) That whole awkward first-time customer thing can take a hike. They will special order large items (e.g. 50lb bag of wheat berries, case of sodas) for you. If you have an allergy (gluten, lactose, etc.) look no further. They've got you covered! [Update: I learned that the Sidedoor Cafe closed mid-September 2012 with no plans to re-open.]

The New Yokel has an excellent selection and it is definitely the only place of its kind in Hattiesburg (that I know of). However, one pays for the exclusivity and the selection, as the prices are a bit steep for a college budget. Ultimately, it's my favorite place to find specialty items, but I can't do most of my shopping there because of the cost.
