Pedro's has the best nachos in NYC. Being from CA, I have very high standards for Mexican food, and Pedro's doesn't disappoint. The vibe is warm and inviting and I consider it my home away from home.

This is the most disgusting restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life. Although this may sound like a dramatic claim, I assure you it is not. I am not a picky eater in the most liberal sense of the word. In almost every instance I eat everything on my plate. At Pedro's Kitchen and Brew, I could barely get through half my pork enchilada. I will not provide the whole daunting spiel, just give the core, gruesome facts. The restaurant (it does not even deserve that claim) is not large. However, they have live music, which is nice. Latin music. Great. However, they have four GIANT F***ING speakers around the restaurant. The kind used at large outdoor events. You can not hear the person sitting next to you or across from you. Conversation, much like the food, is not valued at Pedro's. Speaking of the food, it's slop. Dog slop. Actually a dog would not eat it. The pork enchilada was a microwaved gooey mush topped with bagged "Mexican cheese" filled with pork that'd better be served as sandpaper. All three dishes that we ordered were cold and essentially non edible. My other two eating companions ordered the taco salad with shredded chicken (they were out of the pulled pork they told her, despite the fact that the two other dishes we ordered had pulled pork. In hindsight, she was lucky to avoid the pork). The taco salad came with grilled chicken instead of the shredded chicken. Okay, it's loud, the waitress probably didn't hear the order properly. No big deal. I could not converse at length with my adversary due to the music that was rattling my brain, but afterwards her claim of "disgusting" was enough to get across her feelings. She left three quarters of the dish untouched. The other person ordered pulled pork tacos. They were topped with the sand paper pork and not much else. The tacos were wet and soggy. She ate half of one. There were four in total on the plate. The original plan was to go to Fette Sau, but the line was onto the street. I will never forgive myself for not waiting on the line and instead entering Pedro's Kitchen and Brew. Never again. I feel cheated and gastronomically violated.

Don't be fooled by its odd appearance or indecisive "pan Latin" menu -- this place is a god send on a cold winter night or a hot summer afternoon. The drinks are cheap and so are the tacos. And, best of all, they're pretty darn good! It's happy hour all day, every day. What's not to like?
