My daughter attended the Corbin's Crusaders' half day camp on September 10, 2021. When I went there to pick her up, she was sobbing, one hand holding the other arm with an ice pack. I asked her what happened, but from her babble the only thing I could understand was that she fell at the playground. Several minutes later, a staff girl finally noticed us and came over to explain that Maya fell and was given an ice pack, without giving much details either. Per our son who also attended, she has been sitting to the side with an ice pack since lunchtime. After we picked her up at 2pm, the normal pick-up time, we took her to urgent care immediately and did an X-ray test. The doctor put on an air cast and said they would need to do another X-ray on Monday once the inflammation subsides to confirm whether there is a fracture. In a brief conversation I had with the organizer Peter Corbin before we left, he seemed not care a bit and said that "Kids fall all the time". Yes, kids fall all the time. But it should not be used as an excuse for lack of oversight by inexperienced staff and to shirk responsibility. The staff girls are nice but young. It is the responsibility of Corbin's Crusaders, as the camp organizer, to train its staff to oversee kids' activities and make sure there is enough attention to each kid. After an accident like this happens, an immediate notice via call or email to parents to report what has happened is necessary. If parents cannot be reached and the on-site medical staff cannot assess the severity of the injury, or an injured kid has an emergency, camp staff would need to bring him / her to the hospital nearby as soon as possible. Imagine what if a kid falls and has a concussion? It won't be obvious on the spot! We have experience with several daycare facilities, camps and school and understand this is a standard practice. However what we experienced today made us feel that the care provided by the Corbin's Crusaders is below standard. We won't be comfortable sending kids to camps / activities organized by the Corbin's Crusaders in the future.
