Rule #1 about buying anything from these NYC camera/electronics shops is that you shouldn't walk into one of these stores without knowing features and prices for anything you're going to buy. I failed to heed it, and I was taken.
In my case, they sold me last year's Canon model at $229 when Walmart closed it out at $149. They offered to sell me a 4 GB memory card for $69, discounted from $89, and then ultimately cut the price to $49 as an "expression of appreciation". I took the bait, hook, line, and sinker. Staples is offering this year's Canon model for $179, and the same memory card for $20.
Remember the rule I cited above. You may be able to make a good deal at one of these places, but only if you know what you're doing. If you're a casual buyer, you're better off at a big box store like Staples, Best Buy, etc.
