Visited my sister in jersey from Chicago and we decided to meet in Manhattan. We wanted to go to a nice bar where we can talk and have a good drink, we came to Kumi and let me say Michael the bartender was the best experience one can ask for. He is an amazing mixologist and an amazing person to have a conversation with. Looking forward to our next visit here :) Visited my sister in jersey from Chicago and we decided to meet in Manhattan. One word sums my experience from dining at Kumi last night; AMAZING!!! Three elements contributed to the 5 out of 5 star rating: the food, the staff and the attention to detail. I will start out by saying, the food was NEXT-LEVEL-GOOD. Out of all the dishes I tried, each one better than the previous, the Gochujang Salmon was nothing less than perfection. Incredibly moist, flavorful and perfectly cooked. The sushi rolls were knock-out. The rib-eye steak could have easily come from any of the top steak houses in the city. The short rib was OUT OF THIS WORLD delicious. The deserts were equally as impressive. They stood out for being as good as they were unique. The staff was another element that sets this restaurant apart from others in the city. Jeronie our server, answered all of my questions with knowledge of the menu and was super attentive without being over the top. He offered suggestions and was a great server. The manager, Lindsey, came over to our table numerous times to ensure everything was executed to our expectations. The bussers made sure our water was always filled to the top, plates were cleared immediately off and table wiped down. This contributed to a delightful experience. The attention to detail also stood out as an integral part of the evening. From the high quality soy sauce, to the cutlery, I loved how everything came together. To sum up, I can not wait to come back to try other items from the menu. We will be looking forward to coming back again and again. The design of the restaurant was really nice and the food was okay considering the price. I went with 5 others and ordered a bunch of small dishes. Im usually not one to write reviews but this was the first time I met such a sassy and rude server. When he first brought my drink, he placed it on the table in front my 13 yr old sibling and walked away without even telling us what drink that wasjust expecting us to know. Then when we asked for the check he put all the items on one ticket so we asked to split into two tickets based off of our order. I could tell he was annoyed by that request as he just walked away. When he came back with our checks he placed it down and said so one person pays $150 and another pays $151 in a tone as if why did you make me go through all of that when it was just $1 difference and you easily could have just gave me two cards. First of all, we didnt bring out our calculators to add up our orders so we didnt know it was so close. Second of all, isnt it your job to fulfill your customers request especially if it is reasonable?? My friend ended up tipping less, but I still tipped 18% knowing fully well that he didnt deserve it. Flew into NYC for a night and the plane delays resulted in not being able to attend our previous dinner reservations. We exited our hotel and walked right by this place and decided to stop in for a drink as their bar looked very inviting! We started with a couple of drinks, saw how amazing the food looked being served and decided to order an appetizer. The gyoza was so amazing and the presentation was even better. We had two different bartenders that were very upbeat, fun and quick to recommend their favorites on the menu (which is always appreciated when trying out a new spot!) Towards the end of our stay a couple to the right of us had a not so good experience with the hostess on the roof, the manager quickly heard about it, walked over immediately and completely smoothed it over. Being in the food industry many things tend to fall through the cracks but it really impressed me how fast word got back to him and how fast he made things right! The manager comped our last drinks as we did eat and drink a lot there that night. Food was amazing and so was the service! When we travel back to NYC we will definitely stop again! Oh maaan. I will not come back. Lets start with that food is good. Not delicious but good. cocktails are the week part of it. I dont know who is the barman here but they are not worth it. As for bad points: hostess who told that most of cool tables are reserved but they were empty all the time. literally place is not that crowded. Servers are sloooow! Its the seconds slowest place ever in NYC in my personal rating. And as a final point - they included 20% gratuity for that which I find offensive. Like really? for what? for waiting 20 minutes for cocktails which are like 2 minutes to make when space is filled 50% maximum? I asked 4 times for any kind of glass for flowers which we had and only after last one they brought it. come on! 20% for being not attentive even a little! Shame on you. Even though I liked the food I hope this place will be closed soon as nobody deserves this kind of service for such a price. Oh maaan. I will not come back. Lets start with that food is good.
