A nonprofit with a corporate feel once you enter the office but once you meet the people, everyone is very laid back. It is a family feeling as there seems to be people that have worked there for years.

The American Thoracic Society (ATS) "helps the world breathe" ... at least that is their motto.  Composed of clinicians, scientists, and patient groups, the international society focuses on advancing clinical and scientific understanding of pulmonary diseases, critical illnesses, and sleep-related breathing disorders.  Sponsoring three journals [the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (AJRCCM), the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology (AJRCMB), and Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society (PATS)] and many CME-certified events, ATS is considered a leader in the dissemination of medical research and education. When I have attended the well-organized and informative CME-certified international conferences and courses for the last four years, I have been impressed by the scope of the ATS, which is the former medical section of the American Lung Association.  Not only has my understanding of Asthma and COPD increased, but I have been exposed to other specialties including Pulmonology, critical care, sleep medicine, infectious disease, pediatrics, allergy/immunology, thoracic surgery, behavioral science, as well as environmental and occupational medicine.  At the 2009 San Diego Conference, there was even a special session covering the recent outbreak of the swine flu.It really has given me a good opportunity to geek out ...
