So... I planned this very romantic anniversary dinner. Exchanged emails with 'Lori' for over a week. Asked for a secluded table, champagne, the works. Got the bottle, but the table was smack in the middle of two others where we couldn't sit beside each other, despite other better tables being available. The manager and chef spent 1.5 of the 2 hours arguing loudly about customers ordering tasting menus and the resulting lack of stock. Swearing loud enough for me to hear clearly across the room was a bit much. Then the wait. We ordered 5 course tasting menu. First course, crudo, came in 15 minutes. Awesome. 2nd course, black cod, came 45 minutes later. Wow. Really? That was an hour in. We demolished the cod in 1-2 minutes. Then waited 30 more for the pork belly. Gone in 2 minutes. Then another 45 minutes goes by, and the wagyu steak comes out. 2 hours and 20 minutes for 4 courses. The steak was phenomenal, but not enough to make up for the wait. We bailed before the 5th course because we didn't want to be there for 3 hours. Had to interrupt the 4 folks on the floor to ask for my check. Service is horrible, wait times are just beyond acceptable for any restaurant. If you don't mind those 2 things the food was really good.

Restaurant Beck made me the most amazing vegetarian meal a few years ago. Why vegetarian? Because I am allergic to seafood and have many allergies. They catered to my freaky diet and made a memorable meal. My husband loves seafood and about passed out from pleasure with his rockfish order. I enjoyed a strawberry champagne creme brûlée. It was so good! Please eat here. It never disappoints.

Go for the ambiance NOT the food! First the good (and the only reasons that I didn’t give it 1 star). The restaurant is located along a beautiful section of the Oregon coast. The view from the intimate dining room is amazing. They have a large wine list. Another good point is the bread. They make their own focaccia and its delicious. Get lots of the bread because its the best thing you’ll get here. One good food choice was the hamachi appetizer. It was lovely according to one of my dining partners. And that is the good. My other dining partners had salads that seemed acceptable (although very expensive). The service is nice but very slow. The menu is extremely limited. They seem to see themselves as a high end restaurant with high prices and tiny portions. To pull this off you need to have great food. Memo to the owner(s) - you don’t have great food. Two of our party were unfortunate enough to order the American Wagyu Beef Bavette (fancy name for flank steak). We paid $36.00 for about a 6 ounces of steak with a tiny amount of roasted corn and chanterelle mushrooms. A flank steak is a tough cut of meat that should be cooked at least medium to take the chew out of it. I asked for medium but they cooked it to rare using a sous vide cooking method. The meat was absolutely terrible. Like beef flavored gum. Three or four of the slices I couldn’t choke down and I hid the remains under a salad fork. We didn’t try any of the desserts so I cannot comment on their quality. If they make good dessert perhaps the play here is wine and dessert with a great view. There are MUCH better places with far cheaper prices in the area. Save yourself some bucks and find something in Newport of Nye Beach.
