This place is a true treasure. The people are friendly and the food is absolutely amazing. We found this place completely by mistake and could not be happier about being a bit lost. We have since driven back for lunch or dinner twice (4 hour drive). If you are travelling through the painted hills area and are within 40 miles, this is definitely worth the side trip.

This is a great place that you must take on it’s own terms. It's a frontier outpost in a very sparsely settled territory of Eastern Oregon. Re-supply is an issue; the Fossil mercantile is 20 miles away. Costco is 2 hours. Restaurant entrees are out of the freezer and you eat there to avoid cooking. Your own cooking is an available alternative in the well-supplied kitchen. There’s room in the refrigerator for you to empty your cooler and re-freeze your ice. The lodge is a 100-y/o traveler's boarding house. The rooms are themed and cheerfully appointed with updated mattresses. Some rooms have their private bathrooms across the hall. The downstairs lounge is spacious and comfortable. Your live-in hosts go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The lodge is well-placed to enjoy regional attractions. Tried to make a reservation over labor day weekend and was informed online that the reservation was successful. To be on the safe side, I made a phone call to confirm and was told it was a mistake somehow from their end(double bookings) since all rooms were booked. Felt lucky to call ahead of time otherwise we would have no room to stay had we started the trip. I was told the card was not charged and no cancellation was needed. On Oct 1st, charge appeared on credit card and I needed to email them several times followed by phone calls to get in touch with them. The charge was refunded but no explanation was given. Super disappointed at this point since the charge could easily go by without being noticed. (I usually don't check my credit card details but I got lucky this time to notice this). Not sure why they could messed up the system twice in a row and no answer given.
