Great camping in a great region! Stayed two weeks in an RV slot. Be sure to get a reservation, particularly, during the spring and fall migration season. Went to the Steens, Alvord desert, Pike Creek Canyon, Frenchglen, the Round Barn, Sod House Ranch, the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Diamond Craters and the Mustangs … The station is being improved … there’s more to see … I will stay here again.

Been visiting since the early 1980s, as it's a great centralized locale for birding, hiking, fishing and exploring. Relatively new management have made important recent improvements--such as a new water system, several remodeled and new housing units, and a nice new cafeteria--to the facilities are really enhancing the experience. One of my favorite places!

Beautiful setting with raptor and other nests overhead, songbirds and much else in view at this oasis. Excellent volunteers give info on larger refuge at lovely gift shop with maps. Picnic benches available near the two parking lots. Best in late spring and early fall to catch bird migration and best weather.
