This new resort is remote, but worth the trip. A 36 hole reversible full sized course, 9 hole short game course and seven hole goat caddied extreme fun trek. Superior food, service, experience and highest quality golf at almost 5000 feet elevation. OR beef architect Dan Hixson of Wine Valley Fame You get your own rugged terrain golf cart. I golf blog, have played 1200+ courses, there are bigger belt notches, but this is so fun you have to do it for so many reasons including the people. Spa coming soon, tons of other activities, you just need to like Clean Mountain Air and the out of doors.

If I were just rating the golf course I would be giving 4.5 stars. But this resort needs work and I think it is worth reading the feedback you see here and from others over the past year. I do understand that they've had quite a bit of staff turnover at Silvies, but I wonder now if that is a symptom and not the cause of their core issues. We stayed in the RV park for just a single night, with a goal of playing the golf course and getting a glimpse of the ranch and resort for a possible future visit. When I booked my reservation and tee time I was told there would be a $300 hold placed on my credit card; there was no explanation offered. I was in a hurry and didn't probe more. I should have and would encourage anyone booking to get details on what the financial arrangements are for staying there. Our arrival was early in the afternoon and I had a 2pm tee time. The check-in process was smooth but lacked information. We were given a paper with a big matrix of options for activities but no details on what was actually available that day (I don't think even the spa was open). I can't say the welcome was terribly... welcoming either. I contrast our arrival and experience here with 2 days spent at Bandon Dunes the week before. There is a wide gulf of customer experience between the two. Bandon has this figured out; Silvies does not. Golf was amazingly fun. Course conditions were dry but I understand why and have no complaints. Dave the pro was first rate, very nice, and exhibited the sort of customer focus you hope to find at a resort like this. Dinner was confusing! I knew some form of social hour started at 6pm, dinner at 7pm. Had a cocktail made (old fashioned... just whiskey and bitters and she asked if I wanted ice added... had to return for a bit of sugar / simple syrup). Watched a bit of football. Dinner triangle rang and we proceeded to the buffet as we assumed that was the only option. It was decent picnic style fare - overcooked vegetables, a pretty good green salad, cold beef stroganoff (I should have waited 15-20 minutes for the sterno to heat it up). As we were nearly finished we noticed some others had apparently ordered off a menu. Was this an option for us? Who knows!? No information was shared. Oh, and the buffet dinner cost $68 per person. This place has so much promise and I suspect we will return as I want to play both 18s back-to-back reversed, plus play around with the goat caddie and the par 3 course. I'll ask a lot more questions next time, both up front when I book and after I arrive. I hope they can invest in building a culture of customer focus (this starts top down) and employee engagement.
