Haggen Food & Pharmacy

Still lovely grocery store with nice displays and an abundance of employees. Unfortunately likely to take a hit when New Seasons opens in 2015 up the street. Company received new owners during "the great recession" but the company remains priced on the high end of the middle like Albertsons. Large banner declares the store open 24 hours, which may get some more impulse shoppers during fringe business hours. I appreciate the from scratch bakery, proper full service deli and Chinese food counter, but these things will not keep customers in the new grocery marketplace. Fred Meyer nearby underwent a major remodel in 2013.

The selection is great, however this location dramatically lacks customer service. There are never enough cashiers, and when someone finally helps you, they are extremely grumpy and disobliged as though they are being inconvenienced. This hasn't only happened once, but several times. Specifically, there is one elderly female cashier (Susan K, Cashier #2115) in particular that mutters under her breath and is very confrontational with customers. The last few times, she's asked me for the phone number my Haggen card is under, and I pull the card out instead, and she sighs and shakes her head because she has to back out of her screen, and has verbally stated that "I don't know how this thing even works". One time, when I tried to split a payment between two payment cards, she ran the transactions through incorrectly and had the gall to blame me because she didn't know how to use her own cashiering system, and when I explained how to "split" a payment (I've been a cashier myself), she got visibly upset and told me "you don't know what you're talking about, don't tell me how to do my job", yet when she followed my advice, the split payment was processed successfully (and of course, she didn't apologize). Shopping here is not worth having to deal with gloomy, unhelpful cashiers.
