Chew Playground

I live directly south of this park, and while the playground is always in use, the fields are just abandoned except for a few dog owners breaking the "no dogs allowed" rule. Lots of people use the basketball court as well. It's really disappointing that the fields don't get used and are a waste, it would be great to at least convert one section into a dog park - which is much needed in this area. Then you'd still have a huge part of the fields available if there are ever any sports - which would be great to see. The fields are caged in as well, which is great for kids, but bad for anyone finding the park/playground area welcoming. It says "stay out" rather than come in and enjoy. Zero benches around the whole park, even the perimeter. The trees are very small and provide no shade. The landscaping is minimal, the city is not paying attention to this park at all. Also, it's a spot of VERY heated debate amongst Point Breeze/Newbold residents. Parents claim kids use the fields, dog parents claim they would like to use it - I can tell you after walking by the fields 3-5 times every day, no one uses it and it stands empty.

City will randomly lock up the entire park without explanation. There used to be signs that that the soil contains led, but they also lock up the basketball court...
