Poor communication. Did not file forms on time. Neglected to communicate important deadlines. Lack of concern, and assistance resulted in significant difficulties for me.

I caution against using Goldstein Tax Prep's services. They have a policy that if they filed taxes for you last year, they will file an extension on your behalf without your consent. They justify it by saying they intend to help clients avoid late filing penalties, but that is not their decision to make. I wanted to resume e-filing my own taxes, and when I e-filed my own extension on time, the IRS rejected it, saying that someone else had already filed a return using my SSN. In addition to the stress of believing I may have been the victim of identity theft because Goldstein Tax Prep never even told me when they filed an extension using my SSN, this forced me to file my own paper return, which is very inconvenient. When I emailed my concern to the office, Barry doubled down on the policy and suggested I pay them to file my paper return. It appears they are interested in cornering people into continuing to pay them. Whatever the intent, there is no justification for filing tax documents without the taxpayer's consent. Edited to add: The owner account has come on trying to publicly disclose my private information about my business with them in 2022, and condescended to me that it was great to hear I "took initiative and tried filing [my] own extension." I didn't 'try' filing my own extension - I filed it. IRS rejected it because Goldstein Tax Prep filed it first without my consent and without even informing me they did it. They have since revised their response to my review after I challenged their poor practices in the first response. If they had just waited for a few days, I was considering coming back to them after the weekend and letting them resolve their issue with me, but the tripling down is not just a red flag, it's confirmation. I also think leaving my review up is important for informing future readers about their "office procedure" of filing extensions without taxpayer consent. The following tax year, Barry thought it appropriate to again email me directly to seek my business instead of either leaving me alone completely or at least leaving contact with me to the purview of other representatives who had not directly condescended to me and attempted to publicly undermine my account of my experience.

I have been going to the Goldstein Tax Prep company for 20 years now. I have a consulting business as well as my primary job, my wife recently retired and we are navigating all of that when we file. I also have sought out consulting for other business ventures. What I appreciate is the efficiency, detail orientation, personal service and rapid turnaround. Frankly, I would not go anywhere else. I started working with the company when the late Robert (Bob) Goldstein was running the business. His most capable daughter Beth Goldstein (owner) is now at the helm and Barry Kaufman CPA is leading the accounting team. I greatly miss Bob but am very grateful that the company has continued to thrive and that the service is as good as ever. I have only the highest regard for their work and have recommended them to my friends and family.
