York Custom Deck Builders

Edited review (2022): We just got a notification that they never paid the fee for the deck permit with our Township. I reviewed the contract, and it specifically says under the "scope of work" section that the quoted price "will include getting building permit for the build and we [York Custom Deck Builders] will handle submitting." I tried to contact York Custom Deck Builders to have them take care of this fee but my email was returned as undeliverable, and it looks like their website is no longer online. A few other issues that have come up since the deck was finished: 1) We asked them at the time of the build about some area of the deck that were not completely flush (horizontal boards that were slightly higher than the picture frame boards) and they said they wouldn't adjust it until the next year to allow for settling. We thought that sounded fine, but now it hasn't "settled" or evened out, and it looks like we won't be getting that adjustment. 2) Some of the railings were loose right after installation. We contacted Jeff a few times and he said he would come back to repair it, but never showed up. 3) Since our home was new, we decided to have an inspection before our original homeowners warranty expired after a year. The inspector noted that the deck builders didn't reattach a downspout under the deck after taking it off while they were building. Luckily we were able to crawl under there and reattach it before it caused issues with water pooling near the foundation walls. He also found an issue with one of the support beams and noted that the deck "could shift over time" as a result. At this point I can't recommend working with them. The deck is nice, but they're not around anymore, or have changed their name or something that seems a little shady, and won't be honoring repairs, warranties, etc. Also skipping out on the permit fees (and we wouldn't find out for almost a year about that) is not cool. --- Original review (2021): We hired Jeff and his team to build a deck on our new home and are very happy with the result. We chose to do a "picture frame" design with two colors, and liked the attention to detail and the small finishing touches that his team includes. The carpentry work was good, and the deck seems sturdy. We have a home near our neighborhood mailboxes, and get nonstop compliments from the neighbors on how great the deck looks. As a side note, if you search for "York Custom Deck Builders" and see the other company in the area that has a very similar name (but the other company has complaints about fraud and other issues), double-check to make sure you are working with Jeff and his team to get the deck that you expect.

We just had our deck finished a few weeks ago and we are so happy. Awesome attention to detail with the craftsmanship of our deck and absolutely no complaints. Wonderful overall experience.

My deck was completed today and I am "over the moon " happy with the outcome. Jeff helped me envision and make decisions on things I hadn't originally thought of to enhance my outdoor living for years to come. The entire crew was a pleasure to work with and are excellent craftsmen at their trade.
