When you watch your friend go through a terrible build and have close to 20,000 dollars be unaccounted for you know something shady was going on. I would not trust this contractor as far as I could throw him. This a direct quote from from the contractor “ I am going to treat you like family” well if that is how he treats family I feel really bad for them!

Do Not hire this guy. I hired him to build my house. Had issue after issue. Mistakes were made and he tried to charge me to fix them. I suspected he was trying to over charge me and asked to see receipts for materials and sub contractors. He stated he did not need to provide me with receipts. Told me electrical for my house was going to cost 32k. I later got several quotes from reputable electritians and highest quote was 19k. Tried to tell me basement windows and bulkhead door was not included in price and that I would have to purchase those items myself. They were both in the house plans. Also told me that drilling well was not included either and I would have to pay for that. Too many more issues to list all. Eventually as my questions persisted about pricing he walked off the job, leaving my house partially framed and exposed to the elements. Ultimately he was fired and I had to pick up the pieces. This guy is an awful contractor and a shady character. Stay away! I have since heard other stories of him trying to overcharge other people and being kicked off other jobs. Also former employees have told me that they had issues getting paid, got sick of getting kicked off jobs and will no longer work for him. Please don't make the mistakes I did. You will save yourself some headaches and heart aches. Keep in mind Blackledge should have a zero star rating but the lowest they go is 1 star.

I was not happy with Hal at Blackledge this past year. I was leasing a home during the 2012-2013 URI academic year. Hal was very "I'm here for you day or night" when I met him, but when I really needed him, he was impossible to reach. When I finally reached him, he would tell me he would come by my house at such-and-such a date/time and then never showed up. I had damages to my house from Hurricane Sandy. I told him the day after the storm when the office was opened again. He never came by. I finally fixed everything myself WITH HIS PERMISSION (via text because he was too unreliable to answer the phone), so the homeowner would give me my full deposit. The owner wasn't pleased with my repair and billed me $85 to FIX a door that costs that much new at Home Depot. Also, the house wreaked of mold/mildew when we moved in. We called Hal dozens of times because it was irritating our allergies. He never came by, so we just did proactive Lysol sprays. Mold kept growing on the bathroom walls when we showered. We finally gave up scrubbing. Apparently, Hal never let the owner know because I was billed $200 for the cleaning of the mold and I was NOT refunded that money from my deposit. DO NOT go with Blackledge. The man in charge is not reliable at anything, but cashing rent checks right on the 1st of the month.
