The North Forty has closed (as of Jan. 2019). However, its location, on Richmond Road by the old PG elementary school, is going to be the future home of Ellis Home and Garden (aka Ellis Pottery). Ellis Garden and Home is still located on Summerhill Road in early August 2019. According to the TXK rumor mill, Ellis Home and Garden hopes to open in the former North Forty building in September, 2019. Though, originally, a sign posted on the property indicated they had been hoping to open in spring. About the North Forty... (Robin and Jim, we sure will miss y'all.) What a great home-town, family-owned specialty store! The North Forty was an excellent place for lawn and garden supplies, insecticides, herbacides, fertilizers, pelleted lime, pelleted sulfur, other lawn chemicals, horse riding gear, horse and stable supplies including hay and alfalfa, live plants and flowers, including vegetables (seasonal), dog foods, including Eukanuba, hand tools, some limited veterinary items, and more. Reasonable prices on all items were had here. What made this place a home-town favorite was it's owners. They made it what it was. Robin was just fantastic and her husband, Jim, was very personable. They made you feel welcome there--kind of like you were family, or maybe even better. Robin and her husband Jim were also very knowledgeable--not just about the products they stocked, but about so much more. For example, Robin could readily identify any of those pesky weeds that you were struggling to get out of your lawns and flowerbeds. She could also help you identify common plant diseases and tell you about your treatment options. It's hard--if not altogether impossible--to find such helpful resources like those that Robin and Jim proved to be time and again for their customers. When was the last time you were in one of the big box stores? Couldn't find an employee to help you... Could you? Much less, one to give you the right information. At the North Forty, one needed not to look any farther.
