We've used Greg Lukens Tree Preservation twice and will in the future. He counseled us on out 100 year old apple tree and, when it was time, helped us remove it and the roots. We were sad to see it go but felt like we made the right decision. When our volunteer Cherry became more than we bargained for, we called Lukens Tree because we knew he was reliable and fast. My wife and I decided a few days ago that our maple tree needed a trim. I hadn't had a chance to call around for quote yet but when we ran across two limb trimmers I decided to see if they knew, roughly, how much a job just like the one they were performing would cost. Now I understand if they dont know the business side of the operation. I'm surprised they didnt considering you would think management would want their employees semi-literate in certain things for situations like these but whatever. In response to my question one of the two men said, "a million dollars" and offered a smug smile before turning away back to what he was doing. I responded by saying, "what a great way to drum up business" and then thanked him for his time. A simple "I'm not sure. Here's a card. Call that number" would have sufficed. Courtesy and professionalism start at the top and this interaction told me all I need to know about how this business is run. If the ownership/management cared at all about the integrity of their business they should have a little chat with their employees about respecting customers, potential or otherwise, especially with two limb trimmers working in the NE Olympia neighborhood on 04/25/19 near Marion and Pine. This was my first interaction with a tree service in Olympia and it left a bad taste in my mouth. The conduct of Lukens' employees was enough to deter any potential sale with my wife and I. What people say and do while on the clock is a direct representation of the business they work for and I am not impressed.
