Reached out to Top Hat due to issues with my old wood burner. Several reccomendations of theirs to solve including buying a new wood stove and changing the chimney caps later, I'm out over $7K to these guys and all I have to show for it is a new stove I can't use. Now they want almost $2k more to try something else they say is wrong that they missed when doing the cleaning and inspections. Don't trust them, they are out to squeeze you for however much they think they can get.

We are sorry to see you unhappy with your experience, and definitely understand this being a frustrating situation. The original reason given to us for your appointment was to look at getting a new wood stove, so this was a free preview for a quote on that work-- not a cleaning and inspection. According to our records we have never done a sweep and inspection at this address, but agree this should have been caught if someone was doing this regularly for you. Because our free previews are only visual inspections, our quotes clearly state that they are contingent on there being no hidden obstructions or construction defects which are not apparent on a visual inspection. In this case, the part of the chimney the previewer was able to see when he got on the roof appeared clean and unobstructed and the previous wood stove was at the end of its life, so you were given a quote based on that information. However the chimney offsets in an area we were unable to see, which is where the issues lie and why additional work is needed. Again, we understand your frustration and have offered to do the work needed so you can safely burn at a discounted price because we understand this is a bigger investment than anticipated. We are not looking to squeeze however much we can get out of our customers, but we will do everything we can to ensure they can burn safely.
