Most beautiful place in the world
    Aug 11th, 2018

  • David Ford

I worked on the Double 4 for 3 years in the summers and during calving. It was the most stunning place I have ever had the honor of being able to work on. We worked hard but it was amazing. I worked during calving and then would come out in the summers from Cheyenne and move cattle from winter range to summer range. I had the honor of meeting both Dave and Jean. I remember the creek that flowed next to the bunkhouse and Dave Sr. would fly in and we would trail his horse out to meet the plane and he would ride back with us. Dave was a very wealthy man he treated you like an equal. I still remember the house and the plaque in front because it was an historical site a stage stop at that time in 70, 71, and 72. I was only 15 years old when I first met Dave Sr. and his wife Jean and they treated us all like family. I still remember eating beefalo all summer long one year and I can’t eat beefalo anymore. LOL. But I turn 65 at the end of this month and I always wanted to come back and see the place again. The stream and large pond with the bridge going over to the guesthouse for clients that Dave Sr. would sometimes he would bring out but I also remember people who had worked that ranch coming out and Dave Sr. would let them stay there because he was just a regular he never made you feel lower than him. He was a straight up gentleman and I am better for knowing him. I am an Civil Structural, Fire Protection, and Electrical Engineer now I worked for the County of Clark in Las Vegas for 27 years and yes everything they say about government workers is true over 50% of the people that I worked with did absolutely nothing but collect a high paid salary. Dave taught me that hard work pays off. I retired from the County early my duties at the County was all the resorts on the Las Vegas Strip plan reviewing the major projects prior to construction. I worked 7 days a week including every holiday over 10 hours a day but I enjoyed what I did. These are some of the largest buildings on the planet. I still marvel at these behemoths resorts. My last project was T-Mobile Arena where our Golden Knights Hockey team plays and almost won the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season. I live 10 minutes from their practice facility and when I have time I go watch them practice. I am now a Project Manager for a Major Commercial Developer also I plan review for a large Consulting firm on the weekends. I am having the time of my life right now working and coordinating major construction projects. They made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse. I look back and that work ethic was instilled in my the late Mr. Dave True. And I will never forget that. I also knew Dave Jr. who is now at the helm and I am sure he is just a chip off the old block. Everytime I smell hair burning for skin I harken back to the Days of branding me and another kid my age would trade off being the head and heeler. I think about that experience everytime I have had a stressful day and smile. Unfortunately my wife passed away at 36 years old in 1997 due to a mis-diagnosis from an HMO doctor for over 2 years by the time they correctly diagnosed her correctly she had stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma and passed away 8 mos. later I always wanted to bring her out there to the Double 4 ranch just to show her the beauty of this awesome ranch. Thanks Dave and rest in peace if anyone that I want to see in heaven when I pass it is you for all you did for me to strive for sucess and I have achieved it and its all because of meeting you and the honor of working for you. Dave (Cavanagh) Ford. I had my name changed back from Cavanagh as I never had a chose my step-father and mom had it changed from Ford to Cavanagh and I despised that name. Thanks for everything that has made me the man I am. Thanks Dave
