To Matt Peacock, I owe you my life. You are a true fighter. I will forever be grateful and thankful for the way you fought for me. Thank you so much. To potential clients, If youre reading this its because you had the same fear that I did. You found yourself in a situation that required proper advocacy. THIS IS THE FIRM. THE ATTORNEYS WILL FIGHT FOR YOU. THEY WILL HEAR YOU. Through the entirety of my case Medlin Law Firm kept me in the loop and were active via email, phone and or in person. The past two years have been rough but Im grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such strong professionals. My case went to trial and I ultimately was not convicted of the charge due to Matt being ready and willing to fight for me! * I will remain anonymous for privacy reasons* Thank you Matt and Thank you Medlin!

After 6 months I was told that nothing could be done and they couldn't move forward until a warrant was taken care of. I decided to terminate our relationship and offered ten percent of the retainer just to be nice and with nothing having been done I thought it was quite generous. But after being contacted by Medlin he attempted to bully me and intimidate me into keeping them as my lawyer and told me that all my retainer had already been spent only to send a text asking me who they should make the refund out to and when I finally I came in possession of this refund check they had kept $6,000 and not once build me for anything and have done absolutely no work behind my case it's 1200 wasn't enough they could have said so I could have countered but instead I was given an invoice for services rendered without any dates and honestly didn't really show that any work had been done except for request and filing but again it's kind of funny that it went from all the retainer had already been spent to getting 6,000 which obviously shows that there was lies being told so now I'm going to have to do everything I can to hold them responsible for this dishonest cowardly attempt of taking my money and I'm going to get it back every cent so unless you're willing to pay $6,000 for nothing I would think twice about using this Law Firm. When he spoke to my aunt he told my Aunt good luck at getting her money back. THEY RESPONDED CLAIMING THAT I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THIS AND THAT AND THAT THEY'RE SORRY ABOUT ME NOT FEELING THEY EARNED THE $6000 OF THE 12000 RETAINER THEY TOOK. I SAY PLEASE SHOW WORTH A DETAILED INVOICE SHOWING WHAT YALL DID WHAT SERVICES WERE RENDERED MAKING DESERVING OF THE 50 PERCENT OF THE RETAINER YALL KEPT AND IF MEDLIN HIMSELF HAD BEEN HONEST AND OPEN HE WOULD'VE TOLD ME MY OFFER OF 10 PERCENT OF THE RETAINER NOT BEING ACCEPTABLE AND THAT THEY WERE KEEPING HALF I WOULDN'T HAVE TERMINATED THE RELATIONSHIP. ITS NOT LOGICAL TO LOSE 6000 AND LOSE REPRESENTATION. I WOULD'VE JUST HAD TO STAY WITH THEM and the only reason they wouldn't have told me before just taking it themselves is to be deceitful and dishonest tell me one of the reason why they wouldn't not told me my offer was not acceptable before it just taking whatever they felt was acceptable

Business Response on Google Apr 3rd, 2024
Mr. Kelley, I am sorry to hear that you think we did not earn the portion of the fee we did not refund. What I tried to explain to you and what you don't seem to understand is that, like almost all criminal defense attorneys, we do not charge a retainer and then bill by the hour like family law attorneys or other civil law matter attorneys do. We charge a flat fee for our service and you signed a contract for a flat fee of $12,000. Our service that we agreed to provide includes to investigate your case, prepare your defense, prepare to negotiate a resolution or go to trial, and then possibly go to trial. Over the course of five months, we investigated your case and prepared your defense and prepared to either negotiate a result or go trial. At that point we tried to reach you to set up a meeting to discuss your defense but you never responded. Finally, after five months you called to let us know you didn't want us to represent you further. At that point we had done everything except negotiate a result or try your case which we couldn't do until we talked to you. We have done half of what your signed a contract for us to do so we have fairly earned half of what you paid us. So I refunded half with an explanation. If you would like a date for the actions listed I can give that to you.We did not tell you that nothing had been done. We told you that nothing further could be done until you turned yourself in on the outstanding warrant on your case. While there is an active warrant, the judge won't set a court date.I did not mean to bully you rather I tried to convince you that we could do a good job for you if you allowed us to continue and it made sense to do so since we had already done so much work on your case that you had already paid us for.Since you disagree with me about whether you should have to honor your contract and pay us for the work we have done, I provided you or your aunt with the phone number for the Fee Dispute Committee of the Tarrant County Bar Association which would allow you to file a formal dispute about the fee you paid and allow the committee to decide if the half of your fee I refunded you is fair or not. Yes, I also said good luck. And I never said that all the retainer "had been spent". Again we don't charge retainers and I never use the word "retainer" because we don't charge by the hour. I did say that much of the fee had already been earned. If you give your car to a mechanic for an engine overhaul, and then months later decide you don't want the mechanic to work on your car, you don't get to refuse to pay the mechanic for the work he has done up to that point.I don't wish you ill; I truly hope this all turns out well for you.But it is only fair that you honor the contract you signed and that we are able to be paid for the work we have done. It would not be fair for someone to pay a firm to do work for them, and then later, after work had been done, demand to get all your money back.I'm sorry that I was not able to explain this to you to your understanding.I welcome you to call me at the office to discuss this further if you wish.I did not bully you rather I tried to convince you to let us continue representing you as we wanted to help you. You made it clear you didn't want our representation anymore and you wanted a refund of any unearned portion of your fee. We did provide a statement of work done on your case; we don't list a specific date as the work is done over a course of many different dates. Your aunt picked up the statement on November 7th in our office. Again, the fee you paid was not a retainer as we do not charge by the hour (like almost all criminal defense attorneys). If you wanted us to continue representing you, we would still be happy to do so. But you had made it clear to me that you did not want our representation any longer so my only choice was to refund the unearned portion. We had been working on and preparing your case for almost six months.
