Alert!!! All mothers please run from John Hurst. He is the most corrupt mediator. He lied in court (under oath) and had my daughter taken out of my custody and awarded to my ex-husband. He works with this male therapist and demands that your child see this therapist. They are partners in crime. They both should have their licenses revoked. You have been warned. I wish someone had bothered to tell me. Buyer Beware!!! Run!!!

I have to say that working with John Hurst had to be one of the most terrible experiences I've ever had - not only with a mediator, but likely with a professional in general if I think about it. I've done couples counseling + mediation, 1 on 1 therapists, etc. so I feel I have a pretty good gauge on the good/bad/regulars in this profession...He's the worst. I'm also here to second/third and forth the other comments on here that shared that they were not happy with their experience with John Hurst. And confirm that everything they shared I also either experienced / or agree with - they are spot on. Really I'm not sure how he's earned more than 1 star on here? Not only was he / is he rude and condescending. He is argumentative and aggressive. It's almost as if he enjoys arguing + conflict - which probably isn't a quality you want in your mediator. As least I don't. I had to use him first for a court mandated mediation and then we had a follow-up session with him (that I did not want to use him for I'd like to note). But I guess b/c he was "free" and he'd started with us, we continued on per my attorney's suggestion/recommendation (I'd like to also note). Overall, he was useless and therefore unsuccessful in helping us come to an agreement, which wasn't the main issue. One of the issues/concerns for me was his use of the most random / off-topic and unhelpful analogies at the most inopportune times. Also, he would interrupt the attorney's to add comments / ask questions that added no value and often were just plain unhelpful and often distracting. He also doesn't seem to be focused in on the actual session(s) unless he was talking - otherwise he was very absent/disinterested. For example, after two, 4.5hrs sessions with him listening to our custody situation about our "son", he offered to "help" with filing some of our paperwork so he could sign his names with ours because "he gets credit with the Courts" and listed our son as a female + again as our daughter more than 1x...which confirmed for me, that he just wasn't / isn't present. The 3rd time, we had to use him for a "good faith" effort that was written in our court order (that he had no idea about either) and when I tell you he said the following things to me: "don't ask me any questions then...", "you're a single mom with 1 child, well I know single moms with 5 children, so everyone is busy you're not the only one...", "you're not going to do well in court, I'm just letting you know I've seen his case...", I could go on and on about how he told me I didn't have a case and I didn't make sense, yelling and insulting me over the phone...I was in awe of the disrespect, and really just disgusted as much as I was mortified that a professional mediator was talking to me in such a way. I had to end the conversation, as he would have continued. Also, he seems to think he's an attorney at times, offering unsolicited and inaccurate legal advice... Bottom line - I would not recommend you use him, free, paid, gift card, anything...RUN if you see his name and he's supposed to mediate anything having to do with you and your family. Awful isn't the word. Terrible isn't strong enough either...Trust me on this one, You will thank me later.
