Natalie and the Lutz/Hoenig CPA firm are second to none! I switched over to them from a previous CPA and the difference has been night and day. They are organized, on top of it, communicative and detailed. Natalie is a wealth of information and really knows her stuff! Her team ensures I am on track monthly to make good financial decisions and not have any year-end tax surprises. I simply could not do what I do without their help and guidance and would absolutely recommend them to any small business or individual looking for a rock star tax planning team who has exceptional communication and attention to detail.

Joe Lutz and his team came highly recommended by a business associate. My husband and I started out with Joe just doing our taxes. It was a very good experience and so we decided to try out the Advisory Services part of his business because we are nearing retirement. I have to say, we are so glad we did and have benefitted so much from his years of experience. His knowledge and advice on all aspects of retirement planning from real estate, to budgeting for retirement, to stock investments, 401ks and more has saved us from making costly mistakes in planning for our retirement. I would highly recommend the Lutz team, especially if you are anywhere near retirement. The sooner the better!

I don't like submitting negative reviews for small businesses, but I have had such an overwhelming negative experience with Lutz | Hoenig, I wanted to make sure no one makes the same mistake I do. I hired them in August of 2022 to get my books together. There has been a persistent problem with Natalie (the CPA) saying one thing and her staff saying something else. That is fine. The issues really started this week: *On Monday, Natalie recently had a baby, so I purchased a card and a $25 gift card to congratulate her. *On Thursday, I receive an email from Vivika (her assistant) stating that I owe a $6.5k tax bill on Monday with absolutely no warning whatsoever. Natalie had previously stated that I should expect a tax bill of around $2k. This was a bit of a surprise and I IMMEDIATELY told Vivika (from whom most of the problems stem) NOT to make the payment since 1) it was a surprise, and 2) I did not have sufficient funds currently in the account to make it and would have to make a contribution. Furthermore, the amount was completely incorrect and I had to explain several times that I had already made tax payments before I hired them and that the amount was far too high. *After much discussion, I find out that, despite me emailing her 9 minutes after receiving her email telling her NOT to make the payment, SHE MADE THE $6.5k PAYMENT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION ON AN ACCOUNT WITH INSUFFICIENT FUNDS. Although they have access to the accounts, they did not even check to make sure there were sufficient funds to make the payment and they made the payment without my permission. WHAT ACCOUNTING FIRM MAKES MASSIVE PAYMENTS WITHOUT NOTIFYING THEIR CLIENTS OR MAKING SURE THAT THERE ARE SUFFICIENT FUNDS IN THE ACCOUNT? *I was then informed that I would have to stop the payment myself (despite it being unauthorized), but provided NO information about the check. I had to call them just to get any information whatsoever. I spoke again with Vivika, who was confused about why I was even angered that they made the payment without my permission on an account with insufficient funds. I firmly (but not rudely) explained that I had under no circumstances authorized them to make payments on my behalf, especially payments that are a COMPLETE surprise and will overdraw the account. Her response, "Well, you should keep enough in your account to cover your liabilities." HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KEEP ENOUGH IN MY ACCOUNT WHEN YOU ARE NOT INFORMING ME ABOUT MY LIABILITIES? When I explain that I would like the ACH they made cancelled and the correct payment made, I was told I would have to cancel the check myself and Vivika told me, and I quote, "It's not my problem if you suffer tax penalties for missing the payment." *I received a call from Mr. Lutz stating that I had "torn apart" one of their employees (I didn't, I promise. I was angry, but not rude). I explained the situation calmly and expressed in no uncertain terms my frustration at them making UNAUTHORIZED payments that exceeded the account balance. His response? "Oh, Vivika is overworked and she needs a break." That's when I realized that the problem obviously comes from the top down. Your staffing problems are not my problem. Specifically, after my extremely unhelpful phone call with Mr. Lutz, I decided to fire them as a firm. I finally fired them for 1) making unauthorized payments, 2) on an account with insufficient funds (and not checking first), 3) not doing what I hired them to do (provided competent accounting advice and tax planning), and 4) being needlessly antagonistic and rude and not taking responsibility for their clear mistakes. To err is human, but a simple apology and owning ones mistakes goes a long way to fix things and I'd likely not be leaving this review if there was even one modicum of customer service or humility. Don't make the same mistake I did. There were just so many failures on basic accounting and customer service that I am just flabbergasted.

Natalie at Lutz CPA is my preferred CPA. I rely on her help for both personal and business taxes. Not only does she do my taxes but offers me accurate advice and keeps me up to date on any changes in the tax code so that I can minimize my tax burden. I highly recommend her.

Paying their monthly small business fee to have my taxes filed and reports filed ended up costing me more. They never filed on time. Very slow to follow up and when we decided to leave them they did not honor the months paid. Overpriced for service provided.
