5 star hotel service 5 star location 2 star room The service is impeccable - one of the best service experiences I've ever had at a hotel (note this is not relevant to Contessa). Location is perfect and you can walk to either Fenway or North End within 40 minutes. Perfectly safe walk(s), even at 11pm after the Sox game. My issues lie with the room itself. I had a corner king - room was larger than expected and had a nice couch/futon you could lay on up against the far window, but see below for 2 huge issues: First, no fan/vent in the bathroom. Any shower > 5 minutes with hot water will steam up the entire room. I fixed this by showering with the door open and opening the bedroom windows, but it was still humid for say 20-30 minutes post-shower. Second, the A/C unit was garbage. You can set the room to 66* Fahrenheit, but my room was easily 71* or hotter the entire stay. I was able to open the windows (even on the 9th floor) and kept them open my entire stay. The city noise (there isn't much in Boston) was drowned out by the A/C fan. My A/C unit literally sounded like an industrial box fan. With it on the 2nd level, you would have to talk louder than normal for your partner to hear. Luckily I didn't experience too bad of weather and was able to keep the windows open all 4 days of my stay, but when you factor in the fact you are spending several thousand dollars to stay at The Newbury, this is unacceptable. If the A/C issue was fixed and my room was cold, even with the loud noise, this is a 5/5 hotel and would be where I return for every Boston stay. Contessa's food is a 3/5 at best. The gelato is 5/5, but I wouldn't eat there if it wasn't where you had to use the AMEX credit for breakfast. Service was extremely subpar for the price. Someone threw away my latte when I went to the bathroom so I had to order another one. I will say one bright spot was Juan who was a great server for breakfast on my final day. Street Bar is nice and a solid spot. Hotel gym is 10/10 for a hotel and has some complementary beverages that are great. Bed was 10/10, pillows not the best but serviceable. Location can't be beat, but the most important factor of a hotel is how relaxed the occupant can be. If I wasn't able to have the windows open (and it be 50* outside with light wind), I would have switched hotels after the first night. Fix the A/C and this is an elite hotel. I would not rebook unless I could confirm the A/C was actually cold in the room, which is a shame as you cannot beat this location in Boston.

We had a fantastic stay at the Newbury! It is truly a high end hotel. The room was beautiful with a great view of Boston Common. The bed was super comfortable and all furnishings were kept to a high standard. The staff could not have been more helpful. They catered to our every need and granted all of our requests, for example - we are big tea drinkers, and when we noticed that the room only had a Nespresso machine, they were quick to deliver a kettle and selection of teabags. Every member of staff we interacted with was stellar and exuded professionalism. Shoutout to James and Rubrindra - but there are many more whose names we didnt catch. The Street Bar and Contessa were great dining options to have onsite. We enjoyed lunch and late night drinks at the bar, and had breakfast at Contessa every morning. It definitely saved us heading out in the awful rain we had at the end of our trip! We booked through Amex and loved all the perks we received. Would highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Boston. It was a great location to reach all of the local tourist sights. I was sad to leave and come home!

We travel a lot and the Newbury Boston is a true 5 star hotel. Great location, comfortable rooms but what stands out is the service. Thanks to Tamose at the front desk for excellent service as well as the entire staff.
