Best kept secret in Santa Monica. We have stayed in all the hotels in Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Ray including the higher end hotels and this is one of the best. Staff are accommodating and helpful and you cant beat the location. Yes the rooms are dated but clean and spacious. If youre looking for really good value and location this would be your hotel. A little bonus is they keep the pool warm, so you are able to swim anytime.

Very beautiful rooms , full kitchens and bathrooms very spacious. Has a swimming pool thats heated ! Right off pacific high way can walk to the ocean ! Very friendly staff and hard working :) Really know how to accommodate you! Very much recommend! Very quiet place to be , no loud parties and mostly family friendly ! Worth the Check out Rooms: Very big rooms, beautiful furniture very clean and love the California view recommend the California king room ! Very beautiful. Nearby activities: Many restaurants! Beach, many bar locations the Santa Monica pier. Many shops to enjoy shopping also! Safety: Staff members are always on scene and doors lock great, have a lot of privacy. Walkability: Can walk near the ocean, very safe neighborhoods can even get a good morning jog in :) Noteworthy details: Free Wi-Fi helps a lot ! The fact its quite helps with sleep , study and work. Can sit by pool side not be bothered very peaceful.

Awful smell in the rooms. No AC. Only cleaning every other day.

We ended up here spontaneously, at the end of August 2023, and were skeptical because of the bad reviews on Google. Usually anything under 4.5 stars is really not good. We were really impressed with the Hotel/Motel Cal Mar in Santa Monica. To our surprise, Santa Monica is beautiful and livable, right by the sea, elegant, not too hot, beautiful gardens, great trees. And the hotel is beautiful, has a great courtyard with palm trees and a pool, parking spaces / garages under the house, directly accessible from the street. The pool, the palm trees, the plants are idyllic. The arcades are classic and the rooms are large, they are more like apartments, with a living room, dining area and kitchen. We thought it was great that our room was pleasantly cool, but not cold, as there was no air conditioning. We felt very comfortable and found the 300/night to be completely acceptable given the location, the beautiful architecture and the size of the apartment. Hopefully the hotel will still be there when I come to Santa Monica again...
