I spent a lot of time researching attorneys in Ventura County who could best support me with family law matters. I needed an attorney to continue to help me navigate through the Ventura Superior Court system, and someone who can strategize through ongoing legal issues.
During my research, I came across Carla Hartley. After meeting with Carla for a consultation, I felt confident she was the right attorney to retain.
Carla law expertise has exceeded my expectations, and since retaining her, she has provided me with sound legal advice, and has successfully litigated a case for me. I cannot say enough good things about how supported I feel by Carla and her team throughout! Through all our meetings and In court, I found Carla to be well prepared. She is concise, well spoken, and is prepared to fight and advocate for her client. I feel Carlas expertise had a tremendous positive impact on the outcome of my case.

Carla and her staff have been an impeccable team for my legal issues and incredibly empathetic to my situation. I will be reviewing my experience with this firm in the following four areas: communication, professionalism, price, and results. Everything i mention is factual and based off of my experience with the hartley lamas firm.
Communication: needs improvement. There were multiple occasions where I felt the communication between my attorney and I needed improvement, such situations were: communication via email. There were several situations where I was asked questions I had already answered days earlier. This is a call out because we as customers are charged for all correspondence. I called this out to the firm but was still charged on some occasions. Additionally there were several call outs on incorrect information being typed by the attorney eventhough it was correct in the emails. Simply stated it was as simple as a copy and paste from my emails but yet they would still get it incorrect. Follow-ups were also a concern as there were emails that I expected replies and received none. While on the topic of attention to detail, I also had to call out the firm for getting my name wrong. Spelling and just flat out calling me the wrong name. With the money time and energy invested into these proceedings I would think it would be common professionalism to get your clients name right. All in all in my opinion, under communication, I would rate hartley lamas as needs improvement.
In regards to professionalism I would rate hartley lamas as needs improvement. I am viewing professionalism with an emphasis on customer service. I have already mentioned hartley lamas getting my name wrong to begin with but the overall feeling i felt as a client of theirs was loneliness. During the entire process I never felt as if we were a "team" but as if I hired a group to give me guidance with paperwork. This was most apparent with one of the final documents which was of great importance. I took time off of work specifically to work on this final document and finished it in a short amount of time to give my attorney more time to review it. My attorney waited until the day it was due, taking double the time I did and in the end it was exactly what I had written up. There was no feedback and there was even a mistake. This was very disappointing as I put forth alot of effort and felt it was not reciprocated. This also falls under the lack of communication as it seemed we were on different wavelengths. At the end of the day this process is draining and demanding for anyone. I know I hired this office with the hopes that they would obviously help me but also be more than just attorneys. I could have definitely used the support but this is a business relationship where I am paying for a service and I understand that. So I feel it is important for anyone thinking of hiring this firm to know I did feel like just another case number to them which is why I have rated them as needs improvement when it comes to professionalism.
Price: Hartley lamas is definitely not a cheap office, but this is expected going into any legal proceedings. The reason I am rating them as needs improvement is this: during my first call with this office the gentleman I spoke to reassured me that the money they were asking for upfront would be enough to carry me through my type of case. It is worth mentioning this was my first time going through anything like this so I may have been a bit gullible in the beginning. Needless to say, I ended up paying triple what I had initially put down. This amount of money is alot to me and made an impact on my financial day to day. There were some months where I felt not alot of progress was made but would still receive some big numbers in my bill, I did bring this up to my attorney. The overall feeling I was left with, is one of, in a sense, being taken advantage of.
Results: needs improvement. Info i provided i.e. text msgs, receipts, etc were underutilized. And the overall result was unsatisfactory. My attorney also seemed very relieved when it was all said and done, very discouraging from my end.
