Booked a nonrefundable room here, then had a death in the family, couldnt go, called to cancel, were told there was no refund, which is understandable given the nonrefundable part, but they had the audacity to charge an EXTRA FEE on top just for not showing up. Disgusting.

Manager at the front desk was great!
Rooms are average, but clean.
Location is wonderful, right in the heart of Michigan Ave.!

The location is great. It's pet friendly and it works for children as well. It is downtown in a busy area but it's around the corner from the magnificent mile so there is lots of shopping and there are tons of restaurants nearby. Seneca Park, for young children, is blocks away while Bennet Park, which is a bit further, is for older children and has a dog park. You are also near Navy Pier, where the children's museum is located. Lincoln Park Zoo and the Nature Museum are not too far away either. There is a fitness center, a business center and I think there is an outdoor pool but it was cold during my stay so we didn't check.
They have a Chipotle attached to the lobby. There is also a hot breakfast buffet. However, they were frequently out of things and they only have one waffle iron (be prepared for long lines when it's busy).
As for the rooms, they have a minor ant problem. They could use some upgrades and we had some cosmetic damage in our rooms. There was also a smell in the hallways.
The biggest issue here is the elevators. The wait times during busy hours are horrible. The busiest times are around breakfast/check-in and checkout. We waited as long as 20 minutes and even had to take the stairs down. Be prepared to wait or plan accordingly.
On the plus side, management was very helpful in resolving our issues.
Rooms: The rooms are spacious and built with soundproofing in mind. They could use some updating though. They could also use a better TV interface with easy streaming although they did have accessible HDMI ports on them.
Nearby activities: It is located around the corner from the magnificent mile so there are shops in walking distance. The lakefront is nearby. Seneca Park (for young children) and Bennett Park (has a dog park as well) are nearby playgrounds. The Water Tower Place, Ice Cream Museum, AMC movie theater, Lucky Strike bowling alley, Navy Pier, Children's Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo, Nature Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Art Museum, Soldier Field and more are all within 5 miles.
Safety: It's a major city so use caution. It's well lit with lots of traffic at all hours.
Walkability: It is very walkable but crowded and people are moving fast. There is also lots of traffic but the traffic signals are well planned and timed to give you time to cross the street. There are several bus routes nearby as well as the train station.
Food & drinks: Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks are on almost every corner. The Starbucks Reserve Roastery is about a block away. Nearby fast options include Taco Bell, McDonald's, Chikfila. There are also chains like Shake Shack, Buona Beef and Chipotle is in the lobby. There is a 24 hour Walgreens and 7-11 nearby if you need snacks although the hotel does sell some snack items in the lobby. You also have Friday's, Cheesecake Factory, Pizzaria Uno, Webber Grill, Eataly, Billy Goat Tavern, Yolk, Michael Jordan's Steakhouse, Shula's Steakhouse, Shaw's Crab House and tons more.

We stayed here for three nights and although it is very close to so much on Michigan Ave, the hotel is a tad dated. The staff was nice and accommodating when we needed to leave our luggage after check out while we explored a bit more before our evening flight. I wouldnt not recommend this hotel if you plan on being out and about a lot like we were. The a/c worked well and housekeeping ladies were very sweet.
Rooms: The rooms were pretty much as expected. Very basic and a little dated.
Nearby activities: Magnificent Mile
Walkability: This is within walking distance of many shops on Michigan Avenue/ Magnificent Mile. Theres also a Walgreens around the corner and many eateries as well.
Food & drinks: Ramen across the way was very good! I recommend the xoxo dumplings.
I recommend Wildberry next to the Ritz for breakfast. Its within walking distance.
Noteworthy details: The complimentary breakfast is what youd expect at any complimentary breakfast. We only did this one day because theres a ton of amazing breakfast eateries within walking distance.
