I had them do several things including installing a new A/C. The salesman refused to itemize the invoice, he stated we only give a total cost. How are you to know what they are charging for which service? The A/C unit was to be Lennox brand, in reality it is a generic contractor unit and much less efficient then the 15 seer rating I was told it would be. I was overcharged by thousands of dollars. I needed the work done quickly and at the time they were the only company available.

I wish I could give then zero stars. I have been using Great Lakes since I moved into our home 5 years ago. They were the existing servicer listed on the side of the furnace so we continued to use them. In that time period, we also purchased a new Air Conditioning system from them. So needless to say that many of their techs had been to my house and worked on my HVAC system. Long story short, they missed the fact that my furnace was part of the Carrier/Bryant recall and class action lawsuit. The reason for the suit was a bad secondary heat exchanger. Guess what failed on my furnace this week? Yep you guessed it, the secondary heat exchanger. Come to find out that the issues that we have been having over the past year with the furnace are the clearly published symptoms of a failing secondary heat exchanger. Their service call summary from this week states "Your secondary heat exchanger is clogged up. An uncommon occurrence with this style furnace". Wow, uncommon? There is a class action law suit about it!! They go on to say "There is an accumulation of a combination of oxidized metal and soot That is a result of an inefficient combustion cycle". Keep in mind that they serviced this furnace in December. The potential results of this failure are very dangerous. Soot build up that can cause fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, both potentially deadly to my family. In the 5 years that I owned the house, they had techs service the furnace no less that 7 times yet no one said a word about this furnace being recalled and that it has an issue with the secondary heat exchanger. They just kept coming out and charging me. There technicians are not trained properly and this endangered my families safety. What do you think the first thing another companies tech said when they looked at our furnace? "Did you know that your secondary heat exchanger was recalled and very dangerous?" Add insult to injury, the new HVAC company that we are using also let me know when replacing the furnace that the Humidifier on the furnace was not even hooked up. Funny, Great Lakes techs never said a word about it. I recommend not using Great Lakes Heating and Air Conditioning.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our technician did have a typo with the word uncommon. A blockage in the secondary heat exchanger is a fairly common occurrence in all furnace brands for various reasons. For Carrier furnaces, initial arguments of a potentially faulty material began in 2005 with notices sent to homeowners who had registered their warranty by 2008. We did miss this information and apologize. At the height of Covid, Carrier began a voluntary offering of a $900 trade in value that required testing via one of their direct dealers, which we were not. It would be financially to our advantage to sell you a new furnace, but we strongly believe it is never good to sell our customers something they do not need. It was the opinion of our technicians that your furnace was both efficient and safe when we left during previous visits. We found your furnace to be working until it wasn’t, at which time we suggested replacement. We have an operating showroom that doubles as a training facility, we send our technicians to various places across the country for training, and we hold regular all-staff meetings on Tuesdays. (This is the reason we are never able to schedule appointments on Tuesday mornings). It is unfortunate and we truly apologize and regret that we were not on top of the enhanced warranty that applied to your unit. While we strive to always earn a 5 star review, I agree we deserved a 1 as we should have had the knowledge of this warranty. This came out when I was personally in the field and I would have thought all of these furnaces were replaced by this point, not due to safety but due to failure. As you and I discussed, we will continue to honor any and all warranties on the air conditioner you purchased with us with the upmost of integrity and professionalism. Sincerely, Michael L Ritter Jr., owner
