The first room was in terrible shape. My second room was in better accomodations. My expectations weren't high but definitely drove down when I asked to stay an extra two nights and the price doubled.

The person who was working was very friendly and even offered us some food. Unfortunately, our room was cold. The furnace was broken and it took too many complaints that it was cold for them to believe us and offer to move us, but once they did we were much more comfortable.

Pros: The guy working the front desk was really nice, and it felt safe there. Just a few minutes from everything in Abilene. The rooms and exterior were somewhat updated. I actually liked some of the older features' looks, but the amount of rust on the bathtub and (cute!) sink was a bit shocking.
Cons: There was some staining on all the linens (towels, sheets, pillowcases, and bedspread). The biggest problem was how very cold it was. We keep our house at 61 degrees, and the room felt wildly colder than that. The trains nearby could be loud, but I don't think there are any places to stay in Abilene that aren't close to train tracks.
Rooms: Simple, mostly clean. Cold.
Nearby activities: Eisenhower library, Russell Stovers, shops downtown.
Safety: Felt perfectly safe. There were homes nearby, which made it feel like we were part of a neighborhood.
Walkability: Not really walkable to anything except a gas station.
