2006 Pilot towed to ArborMotion with a no start condition. Tech determined the battery was bad. Installed a new battery and charged $487 for the repair. Battery cost was approximately $142. So to diagnose, remove and replace a battery was approximately $345. That is so excessive I feel I have to write a poor review. I called and talked to the manager and he confirmed the billing and would not budge on the charges. They have high ratings which is why I chose them in the first place. In looking up the amount of labor to replace a battery, the web varies from 15-60 minutes. This was a battery under the hood with nothing in the way to remove. I do want to clarify, this is about the labor time charged. In their response to this review they stated "the car would not start even with a jump start". So obviously, at a bare minimum, the vehicle needed a battery. Once the new battery was in place it is a very quick check to verify the charging system is working and another to verify there is no battery draw when the vehicle is off. Easy checks with a simple volt meter. Though the receipt does not clarify the number of hours spent there are two sections. First the "diagnoses" which was $156.00. Then the actual battery change, system checks, etc. another $156.00. So I assume this is their standard hourly rate. My complaint is that it does not take (2) hours to do this work on this particular vehicle. I also want to clarify, the vehicle has been running and starting fine so there is no issue with the quality of their work just the excessive amount of labor charged. ***Edited for actual costs from the receipt and to clarify the reason for the poor review. Also noted - the labor rate of $156.00 is not a crazy number. Dealerships are now commonly charging $200+/hour. Independent shops anywhere from $100-200.

Hi Harry,Thanks so much for letting us know you are unhappy about your service, we take all of our reviews seriously both good and bad and that is certainly not how we want you to feel! Please call me as soon as you can so we can discuss, my number is 734-761-1088.Before you call I would like to clarify just a couple of things. We do fully understand that auto repair is quite expensive these days but what makes it expensive is employing competent, experienced technicians and using only OEM or equivalent parts and materials; by doing things this way our customers are much better off in the long run since the issues rarely, if ever arise again once we service their vehicles. In this case the battery with tax was just under $150 and the total bill from us was $487.37 so I assume when you say the bill was over $500 you included the towing to our shop which was performed by a tow company. On the surface, we agree that it "shouldn't cost this much" to replace a battery but when you break it down and look closely at what this particular job entailed hopefully you will understand why it cost what it did. Investigating the reason for the Honda not starting and needing to be towed in is not as easy or quick as it sounds as it can be caused by many different things. First, and it is important to mention, the battery on the Honda was so discharged that we could not even jumpstart the vehicle to get it into the building to begin the investigation. We had to craft a plan with several people involved simply to get it inside which was also very time consuming. We then thoroughly tested your entire charging system to isolate the actual issue and this also takes time. Simply putting a battery in there without investigating the real issue could cause even more trouble down the road if it ended up being, say, your alternator. Later on you would end up needing not just a new alternator but another new battery, plus another tow and diagnosis. Now that would be expensive! When we investigated and diagnosed the charging issue and found it to be a battery (which it isn't always just a battery) we then installed the proper Interstate battery with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty and performed the following services to ensure there would be no further issues which is stated on your copy of the repair order: "Includes connecting alternate power source to battery leads to save the radio and clock presets, removing battery cables, cleaning cable ends, extracting old battery, installing new battery, cleaning hold down hardware as needed, treating all required components with anti-corrosion compound, then if applicable, registering the battery to the vehicle using manufacturer software." We always want to be completely certain that you don't have issues with that again so we go the extra mile and do it properly and as mentioned before, this service takes time.By doing things this thoroughly our customers end up with excellent results but yes, it is expensive and we recognize that. This is why we offer many nice perks for our customers such as a complete vehicle inspection (which we performed on the Honda and gave you our findings) daily door to door shuttle service, complimentary loaner vehicles and a professional hand wash with every service. On top of that you have a 2 year unlimited no questions asked warranty so if anything goes wrong with your battery in that span please let us know and we will happily replace it at no charge!I also note that this service was performed exactly 5 months ago so I will assume that everything has been good with the Honda's battery and charging system since then.I certainly don't want you to be upset and I look forward to hearing from you so we can discuss further, I am in the shop M-F 8am to 5pm.Best regards,Sebastian GaetaOwnerArborMotion
