This was such a sweet location, my friend and I needed a place to stay and gave them a call around 7pm not really expecting anything but they were able to give us a room for the night! It was so nice and the beds were great and the breakfast nice. The shared bathroom was very clean and plenty of shampoo/conditioner/body wash. All around a great experience!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt House. The hosts are warm and friendly, and the place is immaculate. Our beds were comfortable, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Rooms: Our room had a queen bed and a bunkbed, which is perfect for friends who are traveling together. Very clean, beautifully decorated , and comfortable beds. There was a fridge available to guests on the second floor. The bathrooms were shared, but it never became an issue. Nearby activities: This is a great hub when visiting the Painted Hills and John Day Fossil Beds. You can hunt for fossils yourself behind the high school in town. We actually found several plant related fossils. Walkability: There is walkability into town and through the cute neighborhood streets. Food & drinks: Many of the town's businesses are closed Sunday, through Wednesday. It's not the fault of the Hyatt, but something you need to plan for. We brought our own lunch and dinner food. There was a friendly bar open called the Royal Stag where food and drinks were available into the early evening.

What a lovely experience! After a day of driving we were welcomed by our host as though we'd all been friends for years. On a Tuesday evening after 6:00 p.m. there is nowhere to get a meal in Fossil so after settling in, husband and I put together a bit of dinner from our cooler and enjoyed wine, cheeses, meats, crackers, and fruit on the huge, comfortable front porch! It was heaven! SO quiet, so small town! Our room was huge AND CLEAN with a full private bath and a king Sleep Number bed! If only I had a bigger suitcase... ;) Everything from fresh, fluffy towels to bathroom supplies to earplugs beside the bed (I have absolutely no idea why because Fossil is a very small and quiet town... but anything a guest could possibly want is provided so there you go) to Oregon/local information books to peruse were in our room. A cozy parlor is open for guests to sit and read or play board games or simply enjoy a warm fire. A full yummy breakfast is ready in the morning and fresh eggs from the owner's chickens are not to be missed! Thick bacon, a variety of fresh fruit, breads, cereals, and yogurt are available, too, as well as juices, coffee/tea, and milk. With a warm, cheerful, and informative host, comfortable HYATT HOUSE is thee place to stay if you're even remotely close to Fossil!
