I just read that 60 years ago it was a nuclear site that was cleaned up. A nuclear accident occurred. It took decades to clean up.

Kimball Wildlife Refuge no longer exists. The Audubon Society sold the property to the state in 2015, and it is now part of Burlingame State Park.
