Holiday Inn Cleveland, an IHG Hotel

The front desk staff was an insensitive, unempathtic, minimally verbal, almost condescending jerk. Replace him or send for additional training. Sadly, my husband and I were traveling from Michigan to Florida because my Mom died. We tried to drive straight through but were ultimately to tired to safely make the trip. Arrangements needed to be made so we were in a hurry. As very long time IHG members, we used our app to find a location along our route. We could only sleep for 3 hours and hoped for a reduced, bereavement rate. As I explained our situation to the man at the desk, he shared zero empathy, did not acknowledge our long time membership and stated his best offer was a AAA rate. I asked if being long time IHG members would help at all. He stated that the $108 AAA ($130 with taxes and fees) rate was the best available. I'd hoped that our many years of being faithful to the IHG brand as well as the very sad reason for travel would provide some type of benefit. I found instead that we should just join AAA or stay elsewhere. This man never even acknowledged the death of my Mother. I didn't expect a hug, but condolences would have been very nice. He also never thanked us or even acknowledged our longtime membership. Honestly, he acted as if he'd rather be anywhere than checking guests in at this property. We've had one or two bumpy experiences over the past 20(ish) years that we've chosen to stay exclusively at IHG properties, but I believe this was the worst. This guy really needs some more training. Also, perhaps corporate could consider some type of discount for this type of situation. Otherwise, our room was nice. It was clean and the bed was comfortable for the 3 hours we slept. I would also like to mention that the absolutely lovely woman who was preparing and serving breakfast was an complete doll. She was cheery, helpful and a true breath of fresh air. I was so grateful for her warmth and smile. After she happily prepared coffee for my husband, we walked past the front desk on our way out. The same grumpy man sat there and didn't even acknowledge us. No "googbye, safe travels, sorry for your loss". Just sat there staring at his phone. This one, single man and the experience he presented left me so disappointed. There are a lot of properties to choose from. We may just use up our accumulated points, and move on.

If you are traveling on I75 through Chattanooga and want a nice hotel with quiet surroundings and good rooms, then book the one bedroom suite at this location. It is a great bargain. The hotel also has a well designed bellman cart that is very convenient and easy to maneuver around. You can just on and off I75 within 5 minutes but you are in a valley away from the noise.

The room itself was nice, but certain aspects of the room are definitely rundown, its obvious hotel could use a little more TLC. The employee who greeted us at the front desk was very kind, when we got into our room we noticed that there were only two towels for a party of four. I inquired about getting more, and was told that there was only one more towel available. I thought that was a little strange, also, I shouldve checked this before, but this hotel does not offer free breakfast in the morning. It is something to think about. Overall, though, our stay was fine for our purposes, we just needed somewhere, clean and safe to stay on our way down south.
