It appears that I am at least the third National Executive Elite Member to post a poor review of this location. The rental experience is entirely inconsistent with the normally excellent service I've received at the National brand, and feedback provided to management does not appear to have alleviated these consistent issues. - Be prepared to have a utility bill pulled up on your phone if renting with an out-of-state license. This even applies to renting with a credit card, and I've never experienced this practice at any other National location. - You will get charged a $250 deposit here as a taxable line item, increasing you estimated rental charges by over $270. They could have chosen to simply increase the credit card authorization amount instead of charging this separately, but they don't. Insist on getting a written statement on the rental contract indicating that this charge is a refundable deposit if on a one-way rental, because if you are returning to another location, they will have no idea how or why this charge is on there. The deposit is labeled as "OTHER CHARGE" on the contract with no explanation that it's a deposit. Don't accept the statement, "it's in the notes," because the agents in the return lines at the airport locations only have a scanner/pda where they can't access the notes, and instead would have to go to their rental booth and use a computer. The agent and manager processing my last rental return at the one-way drop off location were confused as to why this location would do a deposit that way. - The rental contract is not printed and ready prior to my arrival and be prepared to sign and initial every line on the rental contract, even though as a Emerald Club member you are supposed to skip this step. - Be prepared to pay for upgrades. They have a sign on the counter indicating that upgrades for Executive members are $25 a day and Executive Elite upgrades are $15 a day. In my opinion, this makes it appear that this location does not care about Emerald Club status when renting here. - Be prepared to perform a full vehicle walk around and sign a piece of paper indicating you acknowledge the condition of the rental. Every other location I've been to, this is pre-done. - If fuel is BELOW empty, be sure that they hand-write this information on the contract, especially if you are going on a one-way rental. They tend to put this information into the notes section of their reservation system, instead of the proper fields, and last year I ended up with 2 separate return locations wanting to charge me for fuel even though the tank was supposed to have been marked empty in the system. I would also recommend performing this step should there be any damage on the vehicle as well. National, please get it together at this location.
