We went to this establishment after reading the numerous positive reviews on Trip Advisor. Visiting from the Seattle area we wanted to try out place that wasn't so touristy. Upon entering the bar, it took a couple of minutes to get the attention of the host/waiter (Shannon) to be seated. He told us to sit anywhere we wanted. After finding a table we waited for about ten minutes before he came over to our table. He handed us menus and then left to attend other customers. We waited for about another ten minutes before he returned to our table to take our orders. The food finally arrived at our table some twenty minutes later. What was noted by my companions and myself was the fact that as two other groups of customers entered the bar, they were greeted by Shannon (the host), seated and given menus immediately. One party sat behind us; after being given their menus, he explained in great detail what the specials were that night. Once he was done going over their menus, I stopped him and asked, "what were the specials that night?". His reply in a curt tone was, "They are listed on the menu" and promptly walked away. My brother, who is from Oahu, remarked, "I think he has a problem with us"! We finished our food, called for the check, paid it and left. Conclusions: The fish and chips were very greasy, the service towards us was very bad, and I will not return there again

Yes, its true. The ventilation here is less than adequate. It gets very smokey. If you can handle it, it was the best food we ate on the island. Unfortunately, we did not find this gem until the day before we left. But once we did, it was the only place we went. Both the hubby and I had the fish and chips, which were awesome. The hubby also tried the steak, which he enjoyed. But by far the very best, and it was absolutely the best fish sandwich I think I have ever eaten, is the one with carmelized onions and swiss cheese. I forget the name of it, but it was to die for. I have been trying to recreate it ever since and have been unsuccessful. We are planning our trip back to Kauai just to eat that sandwich. Highly recommended. Get over the smokey atmosphere and go here. We loved loved loved it.
