I can't emphasize enough how much I miss the Railway Cafe. I even resented it when the name of the restaurant was changed. It was appropriately named as they're next to a railroad crossing. They had the most wonderful Thanksgiving buffet the last year they were there. I think they were there into the next year following the holidays. I'd been feeling sad on the Thanksgiving holiday in the years since my mother's death. My spirits were uplifted considerably and immeasurably when I enjoyed their almost unbelievable and bountiful feast. I thought about all the time and effort it took to prepare such a meal and I was sorry for all the people that didn't know about it. They went above and beyond my expectations. I also loved their macaroni & cheese when they had it as a special. I asked the waitress how it was made, and she went to the kitchen and asked. It had two kinds of cheese (sharp white cheddar and American) and they stressed, "Be sure to use salted butter." I think it had a bread topping. It was much like my mother's. She just used a simple recipe on the back of the Prince elbow macaroni box. I also liked their haddock, soups and their steak & cheese sandwich. They were famous for their desserts (pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, etc). I haven't had a good Thanksgiving meal since that last Thanksgiving buffet at the Railway Cafe. They were one of a handful of restaurants that I can honestly say I've enjoyed. It was a labor of love.
