Michael J. Garvey, D.M.D - Excellence in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Just had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. The staff were super nice and did their best to keep me at ease. The doctor was very good and knows what he is doing! My only complaint is after having the IV anesthesia I became nauseous. I tried to call the office numerous time for them to write a script for Zofran. I threw up already 2 times including having dry heaving from not having anything to eat or drink prior to the procedure. Still could not get a hold of the office. Thankfully my primary doctor was able to write my script for Zofran.

Dr. Garvey spent literally under 1 minute with me at my consultation appointment. I figured he was busy and that he would explain things better at the surgery to get my wisdom teeth removed. I received a notice from my insurance that he had billed them for the surgery a week ahead of time before the appointment. I thought maybe this is the norm and I'm still not sure about that. Today I did everything as instructed. Did not eat or drink anything and showed up on time with my husband waiting as my driver. The staff were great. Very sweet and helpful. The Dr. however didn't even greet me. When it came time to administer the IV sedation he barely tried once to insert it and said "I cannot help you hunny." I asked what about the other arm? He said "I imagine it's the same story on the other side." He barely tightened the tourniquet on that arm and poked once and repeated what he said previously. This I know is because I am a recovering addict. I have been in recovery for years. I gave him no reason to treat me in such a manner. I requested there be no pain relieving medication after the surgery. He saw that I am on a certain medication for years, saw scars on my arms and decided not to help me. I am honestly disgusted and I left in tears. This was not even all that happened. This is as short as I could keep my review. The nurses were wonderful though. That is the only good thing I have to say about these judgmental, uninformative and assumptive health practices I witnessed today. This "Dr." was cruel as the day is long and I fear for anyone that might be different from what his idea of a person is, walking in there to deal with such a man performing surgery on them. I am actually glad he didn't go through with it now and will be calling my insurance to retract the false payments he received.

I don't review medical professionals often because experiences can be different each visit, but I received such great care from Dr. Garvey and his staff that I had to share. I had four damaged molars removed that I waited an embarrassingly long time to deal with because of my fear of dentists. Dr. Garvey and his amazing staff were patient, comforting and kind during every single visit. I had some complications following my procedure, and they brought me back in as quickly as possible, scheduling follow up visits as many times as needed to make sure I was comfortable and healing properly. While I hope I am never in need of Dr. Garvey's services again, I would never go anywhere else and will point all of my friends/family in his direction. Thank you for helping me and easing my fears!
