Rented a car for a weekend in San Clemente with the family
No issues picking up
Return experience wasnt great due to signage and service but nothing to think twice about
Then I received a $450 cleaning fee due to Smoke Smell, which is apparently excessive soilage
This was a surprise as we had been in the car as a family every time it was used and none of us smokes. This also insinuates someone smoked with a 3 year old kid in the car.
I can categorically and unequivocally state that there was no smoking in the car during our rental
Customer service has been zero help, in fact less than helpful
Long time Avis customer but not sure whether I will be again
Avoid this location at all costs

I rented a John Wayne. I always Rent Avis Preferred. At most locations I just go to my car, but this place was tighter and construction was going on. There were plenty of agents for a 'manual assist' and I waited only a couple of minutes. Darlene was kind and fun to work with, and put us in a great Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I filled up gas nearby the airport before returning the vehicle. When I returned the car key at SNA airport, I specifically asked the attendant if theres any extra charge on top of my bill and he said no after checking. Once I returned home from my flight, I saw a bill with fuel service charge. I felt like it is a scam as I am no longer at the location to talk to anyone. They just charged onto my credit card without asking!
