Moved in October 2023, by March: my car was broken into; personal items damaged and stolen from a unit that was supposed to be locked but left unlocked and unattended by staff and spent weeks going back and forth due to a issues of mice in apartment and building.

I had the nicest time living in Cortland for a coupe years with my spouse and dog. Their location close to the American Tobacco Campus is the best! I always felt like I was losing something when we left this community. You can't ask for better management team than this. Whenever we had a problem or a question, Megan was always there to help. Glen, the maintenance manager, was excellent; if there was ever a problem with our apartment or appliances, one member of his team would be in no more than 30 minutes to fix it. Maybe it's because of their tremendous dog love that we feel more at home here! Every day, our dog had to stop by the leasing office to greet the whole staff, and they all gave her the treatment of a celebrity.

MICE. Enough said. I first started seeing mice around the basement. A few weeks later, I started seeing them on the level below me. My unit is always clean and free of clutter so I never worried about mice being in my apartment. I left a clean apartment for 1 week during the Christmas holidays and came home to a mouse in my apartment. I have no idea how it got in, but I was given traps from leasing to try to catch it. Maintenance came in and laid down additional traps and followed whatever protocol the complex has for rodents. I went away again for a few weeks and emailed management regarding the status of the extermination and inspection of my unit. I was informed that the mouse had been caught and maintenance had not found any additional mice but would continue to check the unit every couple of days. I returned from my trip and walked into my unit to the stench of a rotting mouse on a snap trap in my kitchen area. I emailed management immediately to question whether this was the same mouse they failed to dispose of from 3 weeks prior or if it was a new mouse. They informed me that it was a new mouse so they lied about checking my unit every couple of days because there wouldnt have been a rotting mouse in my unit. They also informed me that they didnt didnt check and repair holes because it wasnt placed in the work order. I originally signed a 15 month lease but after returning to the second dead mouse, I was at my breaking point and decided to end my lease early. I ended up catching 3 additional mice. The garage gates are frequently broken and that invites crime into an unsecured garage. Ive been told by other residents that cars were once vandalized quite often. A break-in only happened once during the few months I lived at Cortland. Ive lived in true luxury complexes and this isnt one of them. The building seemed to be just slapped together with cheap materials that try to give off the appearance of quality. The walls are thin so noise can certainly be an issue. You can easily hear the personal conversations of your neighbors: hear their snoring, their tv, their alarms, their intimate moments, etc. The good thing is that Cortland allows you to test out the property for 45 days. If it isnt the place for you, you can break your lease without penalty. I wish Id taken advantage of this earlier. This place is not worth your sanity.

Hello,Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We regret that you had this experience while at our community, and are working with our service team as well as our vendor to resolve the issues you cited in your review. Unfortunately, with living in urban area comes the possibility of pests, and that is not an experience we want for our residents. Our team works remedy such issues as soon as they arise, and while some instances require follow-up treatments, we are confident that our efforts can help improve our residents' experience. While the gates have been frustrating to deal with, we are working on getting replacements this year. When living in a multi-family community like ours, hearing sound from neighbors is not uncommon, however if it is persistent, excessive, or after quiet hours, we encourage residents to contact our courtesy officer or non-emergency police. If you'd like to discuss your feedback or experience further, please always feel welcome to reach out to us.Sincerely,Your team at Cortland Bull City
