South Hill Children's Dentistry

Horrible experience. Took my 4 and 1 year old to see the dentist. The first thing out of the dentist mouth was that my 5 year old was Under weight. Mind you my daughter just had her check up and her weight is fine. My daughter is tall in the 90 percentile, but she attributes height to been under weight. I was wondering if she was a dentist or pediatrician. Very disappointed.

My kids want to go see Dr. Brannan. She is so caring and takes time with every patient and parent.

I am so grateful this is the first Children's Dentist we tried out! From day one Dr. Brannan and her entire staff have been amazing. My son has loved going to the dentist since his very first visit. However, today was my daughter's first visit, she's 2 so she was very nervous, but they were so patient and made it fun for her.

Absolutely amazing! I found South Hill Children's Dentistry on the heels of a pretty bad pediatric dentist experience where a different dentist performed unnecessary work and was not very gentle with my 10 year old. I started to get skeptical of the treatment plan and hopped on the other dentists reviews to find horrible reviews (and even worse responses from the dentist office) about children not being numb before work and terrible treatment of children with special needs. I also have a 5 year old with autism, who had never been to the dentist. So I immediately hopped on a Facebook support group for local ASD and SPD kids and found South Hill Children's Dentistry. From the moment I opened the waiting room door, I was blown away! They have a coin op (now just push a button) carousel, they have a racing arcade game, old school Pac Man and DK, as well as a large childs jungle gym! This immediately took away the stuffiness and formality of a typical doctor/dentist visit and my Mario obsessed ASD child was in heaven! They did happy visits with him, where we went 4 times and slowly built his tolerance as to what he would allow the hygienists to do until finally he did the whole cleaning. Everyone was so incredibly patient and kind to him! They explained everything before and as it was happening and watched for his cues when he was getting overwhelmed or over stimulated. At the end, the give the kids a coin to use in the coin op prize machines out front. I have not stopped telling EVERYONE about what a great experience it has been going there and am so grateful to have found a good, permanent dentist for my children! My 10 year old had 1 more filling that needed to be completed and Dr. Brannan joked that by the end, my daughter would know how to do the filling because she was an over explainer and told her everything that was happening and why it was happening. My daughter loved the insight and said the filling was way more gentle than any of the work she had done with the prior dentists (she had 3 treatments with them before I stopped them). Even after work was done with both kids, Dr. Brannan took the time to say how proud she was of my son and help in checking the schedule and suggesting a time for both my kids to come back for followups. Love how every single person made me feel welcomed and valued to be there.
