February 13 Update: Trash wasn't picked up last night. Hallway full of overripe garbage cans this morning. February 7 Update: Came home with a car full of groceries. Elevator by our apartment out of order. We got to carry the groceries up the stairs - four trips. Where do I begin? I have been lied to and cheated by the office staff. Because of this, I asked the property manager, but she refused to allow me to record our conversation. I think recordings can be awkward only for liars. The building has many problems. The resident alcoholic (his words) who I had to take to the hospital as his BAC was 3.8 and several other times had to be helped to his room by residents. The exterior brickwork had to be replaced which meant watching out for falling bricks. Exterior doors that don't close or lock. At least one propped all day for a couple of weeks of late. Handy if you forget your key or if you want to rob the place. Exterior doors all had to be replaced as there were times they wouldn't open from the outside, but the worst was when at least one wouldn't open from the inside. How about a pile of dead people at that door in the event of a fire? All of the apartments are having their patio doors replaced. Rain flooded in under the exterior doors of at least two apartments. The elevators aren't reliable. You don't want to live on the upper floors with an armload of groceries when they don't work. There was a porta-potty in the parking lot for several months. Dead landscaping that doesn't get replaced. Income restricted (Section 8?) apartments being built across the way. There are already severe traffic backups at the bottom of the hill now, wait until those apartments fill up. The fire alarm in my apartment going off in the middle of the night and despite pulling out the battery and shutting down the electricity it kept going so I called the "EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER" and no one answered. Packing up my dog and looking for a motel room at 1:30 AM. Trash pickup is not reliable. Overhead light fixtures failing and just hanging by their wires. Property management tried to get tenants to agree to a rent increase after one year despite the tenants having two-year leases. False building wide fire alarms happen too often to the point where people ignore them. Not a good idea in case of a real fire. Several of us were told the swimming pool would be heated and there was even the tale that the heater was being put in. Never happened. When changing apartments, I was told by the assistant property manager that upon move out that my prior apartment was in good shape. Shortly thereafter, I got billed $130. Same with my fianc when she moved out. To move into an apartment together I was charged $500 (how do they justify that) and even worse was that my fianc was charged a full month's rent. They never gave me an answer to my repeated question of why the difference. My first lease showed my security deposit paid was $750. The second lease showed that number reduced to $500 without any charges. They said my first lease which was signed by the then assistant property manager was a "mistake". Since when can anyone blow off a contract which they signed? They did! was sitting on one of their chairs and it collapsed as I was standing up. I only weigh 225 lbs, a reasonable weight. I now have a bulging disk. I was going to sue over the bulging disk, the disappearing $250 security deposit, the bogus $130 cleaning charge, and the two different apartment transfer fees, but at the current rate I expect more problems. Why do I stay? I met my now fianc here and we are just biding our time. Would I recommend you live here? Heck NO! Check out EVOQ Town Flats in Johns Creek. Even an empty refrigerator box under an overpass would be less frustrating than living at Outlook Gwinnett.
